He paced back and forth, swinging the keys around his shaky pointer finger. His mind is discombobulated with thoughts running in and coming out. JJ can't seem to keep it together and he doesn't know if he will.
They're at the hospital waiting in the lobby. JJ's in the hallway isolated away from everyone else. The minute they arrived Mary was immediately rushed onto the gurney. It's been forty five minutes since she was seen. They didn't say exactly where she was going but they knew they had to wait. Which pained them immensely.
Mary is the glue to their foundation. She's the light to their darkness and the stars to their sky. Losing her is like losing the one thing you can't live without. If she's gone, then they're just as dead in the water as anybody else.
"JJ?"
He turned around seeing John B and Pope jogging down the hall.
"Sorry we're late, we got here as fast as we could." Pope informed.
JJ doesn't say too much but embraced them both as tightly as humanly possible. They could feel his distress in their presence. They hugged him softly hearing a quiet cry. John B rubbed and patted the nape of his neck.
"I can't lose her, man" he whispered, brokenly.
¨You won't, she's a trooper.¨ John B assured.
They love Mary as if she was their own mother. She's bailed them it of trouble, cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner for them, and even signed school field trip permission slips when they're parents were unavailable.
She's fine everything right and yet can't actually catch it for herself.

Luke is out in the lobby. He's sitting in a chair bouncing his leg up and down anxiously. He watches nothing in particular listening to the small chatter of the tv. He's trying his best to remain composure. He doesn't want to think about the worst probably to come. He can't.
Him and Mary have been through everything together. From sunset love confessions to passionate rain kisses. She's his wife. The mother of his child. The first and only love of his life. She's a strong woman. Nothing could break her even if it tried.
But..the world will prove you wrong until further notice.
"Mr. Maybank?"
Luke looked up quickly seeing a brown haired woman with a hospital coat on. She stands in front of him with a worried expression.
"Yes, is she alright? Is everything gonna be okay?" He stood up eagerly.
The woman's face softened giving him a small nod, "Yes, she's okay."
You couldn't see it but the weight of the world had just been lifted off his shoulders as the sigh of relief left his body. His worries slowly vanished away. Most of them anyways.
"Can we see her?"
"Of course."
"Thank you, just let me get my son."
He quickly walked past her searching for the blue eyed boy. Luke continued straight until he heard sobbing coming from his left. He saw the three of them huddled together, comforting the blonde while letting a few tears shed themselves.
Luke doesn't normally see JJ cry in public. Or at all. He drops some tears or hears him but that's it.
He went over to them.
"She's okay."
He saw Pope lifted his head, staring at him with his tear filled eyes.
"What?"
"Mary, she's okay."
Hearing him clearly, John B and JJ lifted their heads.
"The doctor is waiting for us, we can see her."
They didn't waste any time leaving the hall. The woman led them to her room. Taking lefts and rights, going up the elevator and down another hallway.
"So what happened, was it anything serious?" JJ wondered aloud.
"It was just acute bronchitis, a common inflammation of the bronchial tubes."
"But she coughing blood"
"Yes, but not too much to be anything lethal and considering her condition, it's likely to happen. Thankfully y'all brought her in time."
"The bronchitis is self-treatable but of course we gave her medication." "However I do think it's best if we keep her for a while."
Most of them look amongst themselves
"For how long?" Luke inquired.
"For a couple days...maybe a week if necessary."
They finally reached the room.
Room 227.
The woman walked inside going over to the heart rate monitor. They followed, finally seeing the woman in question. The room is slightly dim with the blinds closed. Mary's lying peacefully on the bed breathing regularly, fast asleep. Their hearts ached not knowing what could've happened if they didn't get here in time. But no need to fill their heads with those toxins.
Their best girl is safe and sound. For now at least...
