The morning creeped by pretty quickly. One moment the moon sang it's way down while the sun danced it's way up. The brunette and blonde were no longer in the kitchen as they're tea was no longer visible. They laid on the couch like they've done once before. Only difference is that neither were sleeping nor keeping that same space of prior boundaries. Their legs were touching but not intertwined. The blanket covered their bodies. The tv was one but no one was watching.
Their laughs harmonized throughout the room. They've talked for hours. Like they've done once before. It didn't feel so forgien anymore. It felt like an actual friendship.
Something they didn't even imagine would be a thing.
"So you're leaving?" Kiara asked, watching him sit up.
"Mhm, why, you want me to stay?" He looked over with a small grin.
She scuffed, "No."
"Oh, I think you do."
"Oh, you think wrong. In fact, get out. You're welcome is officially over stayed." She gestured her hand to the door as she sat up.
"I'm sorry but didn't YOU invite me over here and force me to stay?"
"What? I wasn't going to let you go when you clearly were upset." She replied, getting up.
"Wait a minute, are you admitting that you care?" He followed her while his grin widened.
"I didn't say that."
"Buuut, you implied it."
Kiara took his phone off the charger and turned around. To her surprise, he's a couple inches away. Closer than normal. She looked up, meeting his eyes. Her stomach does a thing. She doesn't know what thing but she ignores it not caring to dive deeper. She hands him his phone.
"Can you just take it as a kind courtesy and leave it as that?"
He didn't take it just yet, "Not until you admit that you care."
Her eyes rolled with annoyance as a sigh escaped her lips, "Fine if it'll get you to shut up. I care about you JJ, happy?"
He finally took it, having their fingers brush against each other gently, "Ecstatic."
Her stare lingered for a moment before shoving him out of the way. "You're such an ass."
He chuckled quietly watching her as she walked. JJ takes a great liking to making Kiara annoyed. It's the main thing that's never changed about them. It's something that neither wants to stop even if their rivalry has.
Just as when words were about to be said the sound of dangling keys decided to instead. Kiara furrowed her brows seeing the door open.
"Kiara we're home!" Anna called as her and Mike came through the door.
They're black suitcases rolled inside with their black duffle bags sitting on top. Kiara stood there with a look of confusion. It's not a surprise they didn't call, but they can't just show up and pretend that it was right. This may be their house but it was never their home.
At least not to her.
"Mom? Dad?"
Anna closed the door seeing the brunette slowly walk towards them.
"Oh, there you are. Thought you would've been with Sarah."
She took a small glance at the blonde beside her, "And you have a guest, you didn't say anything about a guest."
She folded her arms, becoming annoyed with her sense of stupidity. "I would have if y'all actually cared to answer me."
"Sorry honey, but the lines in Toronto aren't exactly top tier. And so many people call, it's impossible to know it's you." Mike responded, grabbing their duffle bags.
"Yeah, but you don't have to worry, we'll be here for a while." Anna rested her hands on her arms, "I promise we'll make it up to you."
There it was. Their famous words of comfort. The words they've used for years. The only words they seem to know how to say. And that's it. They only can only say those words because they know they can never achieve them.
If talking out of your ass was a person, then Mike and Anna Carerra would certainly take the crown.
Kiara chuckled to herself nodding her head acknowledging the reality of that statement. She didn't say much of anything but turned to JJ.
"Okay, well I got to walk him out. Can we talk about this time?"
Anna gently took her hands off, "Of course, and nice to meet you-"
"JJ." He answered, giving a small smile.
She furrowed her brows slightly, "Your Mary and Luke's son, right?"
"Yeah."
"Y'know, we used to be friends back in high school."
He looked towards Kiara, "Really?"
"Mhm, she was a fierce woman. Her and Luke were friends back then. At least that's what they called it, but everybody knew they had something going on. Except them obviously. Always how it goes, isn't it?"
His gaze never left her, nodding his head. "Yeah, I guess so."
"Anyway, I'll leave you two to it. I'm starving. Nice to meet you JJ." She smiled, going off into the kitchen.
"Well, that was fun." He commented, coming up to Kiara.
She glared at him pulling his arm as they went out the door. He didn't get a chance to say anything seeing her expression. They got to his bike stopping at a halt. She let him go, crossing her arms.
"Did I do something?" He asked, confusingly .
"It's not you I'm irritated at."
"Then why are you looking at me like that?"
She scuffed, looking away. "How can they just come back and act like they haven't been gone for a month."
She blinked her tears away, pushing it off. "Know what, it doesn't matter. Just get to the hospital, okay. I'll call you later."
Kiara went back to the house. However, she was stopped by his hand on her wrist. JJ turned her towards him and wrapped his arms around her neck. She was a little hesitant but eventually gave in, slowly wrapping hers around his torso.
Sometimes certain things don't need to be said. Even if two birdies are closely listening.
