It's July fourth. Fourth of July for most people and a time to get excusably wasted. Fireworks lighting up the whole sky sounding like atomic bombs ruining the island. A day of independence and freedom can feel so isolated and captured. Red, white, and Blue drenching every single thing in grocery stores or convenient gas stations can be sickening for some who considers it another wasteful day. Kiara and JJ seem to have another thing in common if not entertaining each other's presence anymore. They both hate the Fourth of July.

"Come on Kie, you'll have fun. We can go swimming, watch the fireworks, get high, y'know some fun stuff." Sarah tried to convince.

"Celebrating a country that has no problem enabling capitalism, the lack of equity, and every single flaw that is almost easily curable? Sounds fun."

"I'm not saying you have to go full on US American soldier but at least have some fun. You've been staying in my bed eating crumbs of salty Tortilla chips for three weeks. Just get out of the house and maybe you'll meet someone."

She looked over at her, " and who are you implying to be that someone?"

"Whoever you think I am."

She rolled her eyes staring back at the road, "It's not happening."

"Why not, you haven't said anything about what happened."

"Because nothing happened, we just had a miscommunication, that's all."

"Well then that's something."

"...and I might've been a complete bitch to him because I was angry at my parents."

"Ahhh, then that changes everything. Classic Kiara self destruction."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means that everytime you're pissed off at something or someone, you either shut everyone out that cares or say something extremely bitchy that they don't want anything to do with you. Either way you somehow ruin it. Coming from someone who's had to deal with it for years, it sucks."

Kiara didn't say anything to defend or disregard her whole explanation because it was true. She does kick people to the curb when her parents decide to throw her in the ocean of neglect. She was used to spending her days alone that it was more comforting than anyone else could make her feel. But as time went on she realized that maybe she did need someone, an ear to listen and arms to lean into. It never stopped her from taking a hike to her forest of old habits though.

"I'm working on it." she admitted quietly.

"I know that and the best way to help is to go out and see him. Now i'm not saying track him down but if he's there, apologize."

She was hesitant but agreed. Even though she gives no actual fucks about the meaning, she'll go to the party. To have fun and to attempt an apology. They eventually made it to Kiara's house pulling in the driveway. She noticed that Mike's car wasn't there. A piece of her wanted to assume he went for groceries or something but she also wanted to be realistic. They stepped out of the car and made their way up the patio. They entered the house hearing the tv on in the background. Kiara and Sarah looked amongst each other.

"Mom?" Kiara called.

"Yeah." Anna shockingly answered back.
