It was a regular day. Nothing out of the ordinary and nothing exciting. Sarah insisted that Kiara come over and picnic on their boat. With nothing else to do, she agreed. Sarah arranged some fruits and snacks for them to enjoy while Kiara brought blankets. It's been a couple days since Kiara and JJ's argument. He called repeatedly but she was too upset to even consider answering. Or maybe she was too stubborn to forgive him, but either way she never picked up. She started to feel bad after the eighth call or so, realizing that maybe she was being irrational, then she remembered what he said. About Sarah and Rafe, her makeshift of a family. And if he still believes that they're so vile and one dimensional, then what does that say about her?She knows that she wasn't kind to the pogues in previous years but that was well before she knew them. Before she knew what he was going through. She wouldn't have dared to make such a comment if she got the entire story. The anger started to simmer once again, and so she never picked up the phone.
Kiara and Sarah sat on the deck of the boat watching the sea engulf the evening sun while still tethered to the dock. Sarah's not completely a pro at driving such a huge vehicle and Ward doesn't trust her enough for them to be floating out and about. Kiara didn't mind much, though. It was still peaceful on a warm summer day.
"So what's with you lately?" Sarah asked, grabbing a mango from the clear container.
Kiara glanced over, knitting her brows together briefly, "What do you mean?"
"I mean you've been MIA for like three weeks and then you come here, which I don't mind, feeling so distant."
She hesitated before deflecting,"I'm fine."
"You're not fine. I know a break up when I see one."
She whipped her head back to her, "Breakup!? There's no breakup. That would imply that I was dating someone, which I'm not."
Her hand went up defensively, "Fine, let's say you weren't but you can't deny that there wasn't someone."
"There's not," she said with slight agitation in her voice.
"Okay, I believe you," she shrugged.
It went silent now. Kiara looked out into the sky attempting to have her head somewhere else that weren't the JJ shaped clouds. She didn't like it. She felt like a middle schooler that just weeped into her pillow about a three second relationship. It was stupid but she couldn't help it. No matter how much she wanted to.
The silence ended up consuming her in the most uncomfortable way possible. Sarah is the only person she trusts with this kind of feeling. It wouldn't be fair to shut her out when she basically admitted her undying infatuation for JJ many weeks ago.
She was hesitant but finally spoke, "What if there was someone?"
She couldn't see, but Sarah was grinning ear to ear, "then that wouldn't be too bad."
"But what if it is? I'm not good with this type of stuff."
Her eyes softened, becoming more understanding rather than curious,"Well, no one's really good at something they've never tried before, but I'm pretty sure JJ doesn't mind."
She cut her eyes at her with an expression filled with shock and curiosity, "what makes you think it's JJ?"
"Oh please, it would be more surprising that it isn't. Don't forget what you said to me at the nail salon."
A sigh relieved her as she laid on her back, staring longingly at the sky once again, "who knew I would be having boy problems?"
Sarah laughed quietly, laying down with her, "look on the bright side, at least someone can give you advice for a change."
