Chapter 31

Episode 17, Lake Laogai

The next day, we went to the teashop together again. Iroh didn't ask me again how my night yesterday was.

Before I entered the teashop, I told them that I would go and look around the city. I haven't been able to look for the others yesterday.

Iroh nodded and entered while Zuko stayed behind. "Who is this person you're looking for the whole time anyway?"

I bit my lip and shot him an innocent smile. I'm not so sure how he will react if he finds out Aang is here.

"You see, I'm looking for Appa," I slowly told him and waited for his reaction. His eyes widened and then darkened.

Zuko looked at the sky and shook his head slightly. He then turned his face to me and nodded, "Good luck, if you need help just tell me."

A breath of relief left my mouth and I grinned at him. It was surprising that he didn't react in a bad way.

"Thank you," I said and he scratched the back of his head and tilted his head to the side a bit.

"Am I supposed to hug you or something?" he quietly asked with knitted eyebrows.

I raised my eyebrows at him. What is he talking about?

"I mean, isn't that a boyfriend thing to do?" his cheeks became pink and he avoided looking at me.

I froze, "Boyfriend?" I breathed out staring at him with big eyes. I couldn't stop the smile growing on my face.

His head quickly snapped in my direction, "Aren't we like...," he moved his hands together, "Or aren't I your boyfriend?"

I gulped and slowly shrugged my shoulders, "If you want to," I said and immediately cringed at my stupid answer, "I-I mean, I guess so."

He slowly nodded and I cleared my throat. "Well then, I'll get going, see you later," I got on my toes and quickly pecked his lips before running off.

Boyfriend, I thought as I was walking around the city. That sounded good. I let out a quiet sqeal before continuing my journey to find Appa or the others.

I was walking along a street when I saw a group of people. "Jet's been brainwashed!" a familiar voice shouted and I let out a laugh when I saw my brother.

I saw them knocking out Jet and I hurried over to them. "What are you doing?" I asked them and stopped a few metres away from them.

Jet was laying on the ground and everyone looked up upon hearing my voice. "Jasmine!" Sokka exclaimed with a huge grin and I engulfed him in a tight hug.

I greeted the others as well and they wanted to know what happened and if I'm alright. I told them that I didn't find anything and that I'm fine.

While Sokka and a boy called Longshot carried Jet, Katara and Toph told me everything about the Jet situation.

Apparently he had been brainwashed by the Dai Li after he had been arrested.

"Where have you been staying?" Katara asked me, making me gulp.

"You know, I just slept in an empty house while I was looking for you and Appa," I shrugged my shoulders with an awkward smile on my face.

Katara nodded, believing my lie but Toph only raised her eyebrows. We got into an old house and Sokka tied Jet to a chair.

As we were waiting for Jet to wake up, I sat in the corner. I was wondering about what Zuko might be doing right now when Toph sat down next to me.
