Episode 1, The Boy In The Iceberg
It was already noon when Sokka woke me up. we arrived back at the village and since Aang was still sleeping, Sokka had to carry him into Katara's tent. He still didn't trust the young air bender and sat in front of the tent until Aang woke up, and I decided to join my older brother. Katara dragged Aang out the tent to introduce him to the village, "Aang this is the entire village. Entire village, this is Aang." She introduced them to one another. He bowed in respect but the village stepped back in fear. Poor Aang was confused and thought he did something wrong. "Well, no one has seen an air bender in a hundred years. We thought they were extinct until my grandchildren found you." Gran-gran explained.
"Extinct?" Aang exclaimed in disbelief. How could he not know that there aren't any air benders left. There's something wrong with him. He must know that he's probably the last air bender. How could someone not know that. "Aang, this is my grandmother." Katara introduced gran-gran to him. "Is he holding a stick in his hand?" Sokka whispered to me. I shrugged in response, "Go ask him." I smirked and nodded in Aang's direction. So my brother stood up and went towards Katara and Aang. I followed him since I didn't want to miss an opportunity to see Sokka being typical Sokka, meaning he ending up being embarrassed.
"What is this? A weapon?" Sokka asks taking the stick out of Aang's hands, "You can't stab anything with this." he states examining the wooden stick. "It's not for stabbing, it's for air bending." Aang laughs and gave the stick a shake. It opened on its sides to reveal an orange glider. That was so cool. The children all cheered, Katara looked impressed and Sokka raised an eyebrow and was unimpressed. Aang explained that he could control the currents around his glider and fly. I wish I could fly, then I wouldn't be here anymore.
"You know, last time I checked, humans can't fly." My know-it-all brother remarked. "Check again." Aang said before jumping up in the air with holding his glider on his back. Everyone gasped when they saw him flying around above us. I looked at Sokka who wasn't happy at all that Aang could actually fly and tried to stifle a laugh by covering my mouth with my hands. He noticed and narrowed his eyes at me but I put an innocent look on my face and shrugged my shoulders. I turned back to watch Aang still flying around, but he wasn't looking where he was flying. He was completely focused on Katara who watched him with a smile on her face that he didn't notice he was about to fly into my brother's watchtower. Yeah, that's exactly what happened. He flew head first into the tower.
When Aang got his head out of the tower he and his glider fell on the ground along with the precious tower. "My watchtower!" Sokka exclaimed, his eyes and mouth wide open. Katara ran up to Aang to help him get up. "Don't worry, we'll build it up again." I put a hand on my brother's shoulder trying to comfort him because he was really proud of his tower and it meant a lot to him. "Great, you're an air bender, Katara's a water bender. Together you can waste time all day long." Sokka huffed out and stomped away. I sighed and went after my emotional brother, sometimes I think he is a girl on her period.
"Sokka, wait." I called after him. He stopped and turned around to face me and waited for me to continue. "Where are you going? I thought you wanted to train the little kids in fighting." I continued. I wanted to avoid doing chores, I hate them, and gran-gran. I only want to relax now and watch Sokka failing in trying to train the little kids. "You're right. We must be prepared in case the fire nation comes." Sokka agreed with me and we made our way back to the village to pick up all the kids.
We went to the edge of the village, where a small wall was the border. I lied down on it while Sokka stood in front of the wall and all the kids sat down to listen to Sokka. "Now men, it's important that you show no fear when you face a fire bender. In the Watertribe we fight to the last man standing." Sokka began going up and down the line of kids, "For without courage, how can we call ourselves men?" he ended his little speech facing all the children. However, they had no idea what was going on and their faces were hilarious.
"I gotta pee." One of them said putting up his hand. A chuckle escaped my lips but Sokka didn't find that funny at all, "Until your fathers return from the war, they're counting on you to be the men. And that means, no potty breaks." Sokka explained to them then looked at me wanting me to agree with him. I rolled my eyes and sat up, my feet dangling down the wall. I glared at them with an eyebrow raised to tell them there are no potty breaks. "You should agree with me that there are no breaks and not make them all pee their pants right there." Sokka exclaimed putting his hands on his face. "Oops, sorry." I apologized, "Okay cuties, no need to be scared of me. Who else has to go?" I asked the kids, "Okay," I laughed a bit when they all put up their hands. I jumped down the wall and waved my hands in the village's direction, "Come on, go already." I added and they all jumped up and ran into the village.
I shook my head at the cute children but Sokka could only face palm. "Have you seen Aang? Gran-gran said he disappeared over an hour ago." Katara asked us. "I thought he is with you since he has a little crush on you." I answered wiggling my eyebrows at Katara. Before she could say something, we heard Aang coming out of the toilet, "Wow, everything freezes in there." He said pointing his thumb at the little toilet and the children all laughed at his statement.
Sokka who was already annoyed got furious, "Katara, get him out of here. This lesson is for warriors only." Sokka yelled pointing at Aang who was now playing with the 'warriors'. My brother ran up to them yelling, "Stop it right now. What's wrong with you. We don't have time for fun with a war going on." Aang looked utterly confused, "What war? What are you talking about?" he asked.
He can't be serious, I mean everyone knows about the war. This boy gets stranger and stranger by the minute. I gasped slightly and put my hand over my mouth and took a step back. He's the Avatar. He has to be. Air bender? Check. Has no idea about what's going on? Check. Was frozen in the ice? Check. Has no idea he is the last air nomad? Check.
"You're kidding right?" Sokka asked not believing him. Aang's face turned from confused to shock, "Penguin" he yelled and ran after it. "What in the Avatar's name-?" I breathed out completely shocked about my discovery. Katara ran after him, probably to go penguin sledding with him. "He was kidding right?" Sokka looked at me, "I have no idea." I whispered and shook my head.
The kids refused to get back to the training, so I decided I would call it a day, even though it was only two hours after noon, and went into my tent to lie down in my bed and read. Not even an hour went by when I heard a loud boom noise, so I got out of bed to look where it came from. All the other villagers were outside too. I looked up in the sky. Oh no... the boom came from the old Fire Navy Ship. Someone tried to signal or contact the Fire Nation. I searched for Sokka in the crowd. I spotted him in the very front and made my way through all the people to get to him. When I reached him I grabbed his arm, "We're dead" I whispered. He looked down at me since he was taller than me, but that's nothing special since I am about 5'2 feet tall and he is about 5'9 feet tall. He hugged me from the side, "No, I'll protect you and everyone here." He answered but I could hear the doubt in his voice. He couldn't possibly protect me or everyone here from the Fire Navy. Hell, he couldn't even protect himself alone from them. I shook my head at our unfortune. We're so screwed.
