Episode 13, The Firebending Masters

We managed to find Aang pretty quickly. He was standing in front of a huge temple, waiting for us.

He smiled slightly when he saw us approaching him and briefly glanced at our hands but ignored it.

"This seems promising," he said and turned around, pointing at the huge antique building at the top of a hill.

We climbed up the stairs and when we stopped at the top in front of the wall, I knitted my eyebrows. There were engravings of a person who was surrounded by dragons and flames which circled the person completely.

"Though, I'm not sure what this tells us about the original source of firebending," Aang said as he eyed the engravings.

"They look pretty angry to me," Zuko commented.

I glanced at him briefly because when I think of angry, I see season one Zuko in front of me.

"I thought the dragons were friends with the sun warriors," Aang exclaimed as I furrowed my brow.

"I don't think friends want to kill each other," I said and turned to the two boys beside me. "This place gives me the creeps," I mumbled and shuddered slightly as Zuko looked down and turned away from us, letting go of my hand.

"Zuko," Aang slowly said and watched him turn around and I tilted my head to the side looking at his back, "Something happened to the dragons in the last 100 years. Something you're not telling us."

"My great-grandfather Sozin happend," Zuko said, slightly looking up, his back still facing us.

That's one way to put it. But I guess he wasn't wrong.

Zuko started to walk around the hill and over a bridge while telling us what Sozin did.

"He started the tradition of hunting dragons for glory. They were the ultimate firebenders. And if you could conquer one, your firebending talents would become legendary and you'd earn the honorary title, Dragon."

Wait, didn't somebody call uncle Iroh 'Dragon of the West' once?

With knitted eyebrows, I continued to follow them.

"The last great dragon was conquered long before I was born, by my uncle."

My jaw dropped and my eyebrows shot up as we stopped at the end of the bridge in front of a dragon statue.

"But I thought your uncle was, I don't know, good?" Aang said, speaking my mind. Zuko put his hand on the statue and let out a breath as Aang hugged his glider.

"He had a complicated past. Family tradition I guess," Zuko said, looking over his shoulder briefly. My eyes softened and I bit my lip.

Do all the good guys in the Royal Family have bad luck? I swear, that's so unfair.

"Let's just move on," Zuko said and we walked around until we finally found a building which we could enter.

Aang went up to the round golden doors and tried to open them but failed.

"Wait," Zuko said and stepped to the side, looking over his shoulder. I followed his gaze and saw a tall tower which reflected light our way.

I looked back at the ground and saw that we were standing in a circle.

"That's a celestial calender. Just like the fire sages have in their temples," Zuko said as he stepped forward and eyed the circle on the ground.

I snapped my head up and let my gaze drift around for something that light could be meant for. A red stone above the doors caught my eye, making me smile.
