Episode 8, The Puppetmaster
"You're from the Southern Water Tribe?" Katara asked dumfoundedly while I only stared at the woman.
"Just like you," Hama responded. Wait a second, how does she know? I bet she is a stalker or something.
"How did you know?" my twin asked her with big eyes.
"I heard you talking around your campfire," Hama admitted. This just keeps getting better and better.
"But why didn't you tell us?" Sokka asked. I swear, if we stay here after this, I'm gonna turn myself in to the Fire Nation.
Oh wow, guess I'll be going then. I can't believe my very smart siblings and friends. They really did accept her offer of staying here for another night just because she is from our tribe and wanted to surprise us with water tribe food. Hama even is a waterbender.
As we were eating our soup, Hama told us about the early years and how the Fire Nation wiped all the waterbenders out.
So apparently, the Fire Nation took all the waterbenders captive. And even though they fought, the number of waterbenders decreased drastically. Hama had been fighting til the end; she was the last waterbender but she had been taken captive as well.
They all were put in terrible prisons, and Hama was the only one that managed to escape.
"How did you get away? And why did you stay in the Fire Nation?" Sokka asked her and I wanted to know the answers as well.
"I'm sorry. It's too painful to talk about anymore," she replied and shook her head while looking down.
Yeah no, there's something fishy about that. Katara told her about our mother and that we understand her pain.
"I never thought I'd meet another southern waterbender let alone two. I want to teach you girls what I know so you can carry on the southern tradition when I'm gone," Hama said and I wanted to decline when Katara clapped and immediately agreed. Though, I didn't miss the creepy smile she gave Katara when she was bowing.
So, in order to not let my sister go alone with mrs creepy I went with them. We were walking out of town and onto a beautiful meadow full of flowers right beside the forest.
Hama told us that we should think resourcefully becuse there wasn't water everywhere. She showed us that we could take water even out of the air.
Stretching out her arm and swinging it from left to right in a swift movement, Hama managed to get some water out of ther air.
She made the water go around her fingers before freezing it. Then, she swung her hand towards a tree, making the icicles fly and hit the tree. They stuck on the wood just like Mai's little arrows would.
To be honest, that was pretty cool and amazing. I think I could use that trick some time.
The Fire Lilies were beyond beautiful. But I started to get a really bad feeling this time when Hama told us that they also contain water like every plant or living thing.
Katara was oblivious to that tension and excitedly told her about the waterbenders in the swamp and how they were able to control the vines by bending the water inside.
Hama, whose back was turned to us, looked over her shoulder with an evil smile. I stepped closer to Katara. "You can take it even further."
Hama stretched out her arm again and turned around completely one time. All the water from the Lilies which were around her came out and she used that to slash a nearby rock.
