Like in Pewter City, you stepped into the arena of the gym with Misty going up to the stands to watch. You glanced up and saw Misty raise her fist up in support of you. On the other side of the arena, Lt. Surge stepped forward and smirked at you.

Surge: Hello hello little one! Welcome to my gym! Do you think you have what it takes to take me down?!

(Y/N): I know I do!

Surge: HA! Cocky! I like that! Shall we dance!

Surge threw out his Voltorb. The small ball sent out a few shock waves from its body, but it wasn't enough to scare you off. You grabbed a ball and threw out one of your newer Pokemon. Haunter emerged and hissed a little as it saw its opponent.

Surge: Fine then kid! Let's get going! Tackle!

(Y/N): Grab it and used Night Shade!

Voltorb dashed forward and skipped from side to side. However, once it made contact with Haunter's hands, your ghost type was able to get off a Night Shade and slam Voltorb down onto the ground.

(Y/N): Lick!

Surge: Voltorb use screech!

Just as Haunter got up in front of Voltorb, the ball Pokemon screamed out. However, the Lick was still effective, paralyzing the ball.

Surge: Sonicboom!

(Y/N): Dodge it and go in for another Night Shade!

The sonic boom was able to clip Haunter just a little bit. Your Pokemon was able to move in close and deal another Night Shade to Voltorb.

(Y/N): Go in for Hypnosis!

Haunter got up in front of Voltorb and used the move. To Surge's shock, it worked and Voltorb was lulled to sleep.

(Y/N): Dream eater and how about another Night Shade!

Haunter chuckled again and used both moves. The Dream Eater was able to tear into the dreams of Voltorb and drain a good 20 HP back into Haunter. Haunter then finished off the orb Pokemon with a slash down its back. Surge quickly retracted the Pokemon and threw out his next option, a Pikachu.

(Y/N): Confuse Ray!

Surge: Quick Attack!

Pikachu darted forward, avoiding the ray and slamming directly onto Haunter's face.

(Y/N): Night Shade!

Haunter grabbed Pikachu and slapped the Pokemon down onto the ground and used the attack. Compared to Voltorb, it didn't do much, but it still dealt a good bit of damage.

Surge: Gotcha. Thundershock.

A massive jolt of electricity flooded from Pikachu and shocked Haunter in the back of the head. In a second, Haunter was knocked out. You sighed and pulled the Pokemon back to you. You looked at it and smiled.

(Y/N): Nice work. Charmeleon! Get out there!

Your partner emerged, forming two fists as she stormed up into battle.

(Y/N): Flame thrower!

Surge: Quick Attack.

Once again, the two Pokemon charged into battle against one another. While Quick Attack was able to land on Charmeleon, her flame thrower was able to break Pikachu's stride and knock him off his feet.

(Y/N): Slash!

Charmeleon ran in and went to slash at the Pikachu. Pikachu got up and avoided the attack.
