The following day came as the morning was nice and slow. You slowly got out of the bed Warren let you use as you stumbled a little as you tried to come back from the grave of slumber. Fortunately, your team was able to shock you awake. You slapped your face a little to get you zoned in on what needed to be done. Plus, Machop did get a solid slap across the face for a good reason. Once you were fully awake, you stepped out of your room and yawned a little more. However, you stopped as you glanced down the hallway.

Standing there was Misty, short-shorts on and a plain white t-shirt. She looked lovely, to say the least. Granted, you were dating her, but with the back lighting of a large window behind the stairs which allowed the sun to shine down onto her, she looked like an angel to you. You blushed heavily as Misty looked over at you. She gave you a smile as your blush grew. She giggled a little and walked over to you.

Misty: What's going on with you this morning?

(Y/N): Alright, alright. I get it.

Misty: Get what? Someone like what they see?

(Y/N): Yeah, yeah.

You pushed past her slightly, still with the same persistent blush on your face. She giggled some more as you walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. Luckily, Warren had already made food, so you nabbed a quick bite just before he walked in from outside. He smiled once he saw you and walked over to you at the table.

Warren: Had a good night?

(Y/N): To some extent, yes. Thank you for letting us stay here.

Warren: Of course. It is the least I could do. Now then, you had time to think about yesterday's battle. Any ideas on how to improve.

(Y/N): I think getting Nidoran evolved and learning new moves other than poison for support. Secondly, I believe that Machop needs to get more physically fit.

Warren: Ah, your lower leveled pokemon. Alright then. Let's get started. How about you take Machop and do some laps around the town.

(Y/N): Why me?

Warren: Training with your pokemon is a good way of bonding. Plus, you seem to not use him or Nidoran often in battle. Perhaps it could be a perceived negative bond between you three.

You wanted to snap back and fight him on that one but he did have a point. You had been neglecting your lower-level pokemon if favor of your powerful ones. It would either be that you gave them up or you trained them to evolve and fast. You nodded and went outside and popped open Machop. He looked up at you and you gave him a smile.

(Y/N): Alright buddy. For the next few hours, it is going to be just me and you.

Machop smiled at you and you offered up a high-five. He quickly accepted it as you two got busy. The run around town wasn't as bad as you thought it would be, but it was a slow and painful process, to say the least. Also didn't help that Machop was basically in the lead for more than half of it.

Once the run was done, Warren had you both do some physical exercises with Nidoran. Currently, you three were working on fighting-type moves, trying to push them to their ultimate levels at such young ages. You joined, in, improving your own physical capabilities along with their own. Needless to say, tiring but it was kinda fun. You guys ran through double kicks, mega punches, and basic combat drills.

Nidoran also worked on developing some more poison-type moves that would be good against the coming gym leaders. Obviously toxic was on the top floor of that. But also there was fury attack, something you wanted him to pick up to give off a fighting chance. Poison sting was good, but since you wanted more of a damaging route with your little guy here, you needed a different edge.

As you were trying to figure that out, Warren walked in and smiled at your progress.

Warren: Well?

(Y/N): It's going. Nidoran's got everything down but one last move.

Warren: Why not double-edge?

(Y/N): That move is another normal type attack. What if I run into a trainer or gym leader whose pokemon are immune to that. That only leaves me with double kick and toxic.

Warren: Well, you are still worrying about type advantages. Yes, there will be pokemon resistant or immune to those attacks. But, that then puts down the strong attacks you have. Try developing those out. I say, go with double-edge and spend today working on getting Nidoran up to that power level.

You nodded a little. You then sighed and pinched the bridge of your nose slightly. How the hell was this going to work out. Then the thought came to you. Fighting-type moves on fighting type moves.

(Y/N): Nidoran, Machop. Follow me.

Quickly, your pokemon followed you as you got to the back ranch. Once in the back, you turned back to your pokemon and smiled.

(Y/N): Alright. We have one who uses double kick and another who has seismic toss, karate chop, low kick, and mega punch. So we need to start practicing now. I want you both to use your kick attacks against one another.

Both pokemon looked at one another and nodded. They leapt back to the other sides of the arena and let you walk out. Quickly, the two pokemon unleashed their kicks onto the other. Each blow left a small crater where they once stood. Nidoran clearly had a speed advantage while Machop held the overall physical advantage. Both were still going at the other's neck, waving their legs around back and forth. As the battle was going on, Misty walked from behind you and rested her head on your back.

Misty: Hey.

(Y/N): Hey.

Misty: How is this all going?

(Y/N): Alright. Pushing them onto stronger fighting-type moves.

Misty: And the strategy is...?

(Y/N): I don't think your friend there is going to be much help in that field.

Misty: (Sighs) Should have known it would be a long shot.

(Y/N): Meaning?

Misty: Warren...is kinda secretive. Especially when it comes to his battle strategies. I wouldn't be surprised if the stuff he gave you is the only thing you are going to be getting from him.

You facepalmed. Almost hard enough to knock you down to the ground as well. Your hand slid down your face to reveal an annoyed scowl covering it.

(Y/N): You tell me this now? After we spent how many days climbing up and down mountains to get here?

Misty: Well, I said kinda.

You groaned again as you heard a double kick and a low kick collide with one another. The shockwave pushed you forward just a bit to get up closer to Misty. She wrapped her arms are you and smiled.

(Y/N): Don't give me that.

Misty: And what would you rather have me do? Say good job and then let's keep moving?

(Y/N): Honestly, yeah. Wouldn't mind that one bit.

Misty: Not that easy, hotshot.

(Y/N): I am aware. We need supplies and whatnot.

Misty: Whatnots? These are things we will need to survive out there. Not just some 'what nots'.

(Y/N): Oh get off my back about it. I didn't waste our time moving across mountains to some guy who can barely help us.

Misty: Free night and food is a good deal!

(Y/N): No matter how true that is, it's not a good match-up.

Misty: Well-

A cry was heard as a massive light flash appeared behind you. Quickly, you and Misty turned back. You saw Machop back away as Nidoran's form shifted and grew. It wasn't by much, but the form was clear. Nidoran had just evolved into Nidorino.

Once free of the evolution glow, your newest pokemon roared out and looked over to you. You blinked a little, glancing over to Misty as she too was in some awe of the evolution. You turned back to Nidorino as you saw him smile a little at you. You still held the same shocked expression, however.

(Y/N): Well...that's new.
