Chapter 25: Refusal

(Kyuhyun)

        "For this mission, I have decided to let Kris choose who will be going." Lay told them, smiling at Kris.

        "Alright." Kris said, he took a piece of paper from his pocket and read the names he had writen down, "Leeteuk, Kyuhyun, Eunhyuk, Henry, Shindong, and of course Kibum."

        "Hold it! There's a problem with this." Donghae said angrily upon hearing the names, "Eunhyuk isn't going without me."

        "And I will not let Kyuhyun go without me." Ryeowook declared.

        Kyuhyun nearly jumped in suprise.

        "What?" Ryeowook asked, "I said I needed some time alone, I didn't say I wanted you to die."

        "I demand a change." Donghae said angrily, "I'll go instead of Henry."

        "No." Lay said firmly, "These are the people Kris has chosen, there will be no changes, I'm sure he had a reason to seperate you, and it's a good one."

        "What reason then?" Donghae turned to Kris.

        "My personal reasons, why should I tell you?" Kris asked.

        "Because I want to know." Donghae snarled.

        "No, you stay here, that's good, you can be safe." Eunhyuk said.

        "Yeah Wookie, you too." Kyuhyun agreed.

        "No!" Ryeowook trembled, "What if - what if you die! Kyuhyunnie!" and with that he jumped into Kyuhyun's open arms, "I'm sorry I had to make things hard for you." he sobbed in Kyuhyun's jacket, "It's all my fault."

        "No, it isn't!" Kyuhyun said, wrapping his arms around Ryeowook, "Ryeowook, this is good, you can be safe here."

        "And what if you die?" Ryeowook cried uncontrollably, "What will I do?"

        "You'll live on." the pain in Kyuhyun's eyes was clear, "You'll find someone else."

        "No, no I won't, because I love you and only you." Ryeowook sobbed, "Lay, Lay please don't let him go."

        Lay said nothing.

        "Please Lay please." Ryeowook buried his face into Kyuhyun's jacket, "Don't let him die."

(Kris)

       "He will not die." Kris said, his voice flat, he did not really like to see affection, it reminded him of how he couldn't even tell his crush how he felt.

        "How can you be sure?" Ryeowook shot back, lifting his head, "If he dies I will never forgive you!"

        "I just said that he won't!"

        "That's enough." Lay intervened, "The remaining four, Ryeowook, Donghae, Kangin and Heechul, can go send you to the tunnel's entrance in District 14, that is the most that I will allow."

        That night, Ryeowook shyly asked Kyuhyun if they could sleep together in their room again, and of course Kyuhyun agreed.

        Kyuhyun held him tight while Ryeowook sobbed, just like their first night together in the training center. Though Kyuhyun would never admit it, it made him feel a bit better, it made him feel like Ryeowook needed him again, and that he was protecting his lover again.
