Chapter 48: An Anchovy's Shoe

(Ryeowook)

Ryeowook could not wait outside the tent any longer, his patience wore out and he went straight into the tent where Kyuhyun was being treated.

To his surprise, they were already done, Kyuhyun lay on a small bed, covered in white bandages, he was still unconscious.

None of the Doctors said a word when Ryeowook reached out to caress Kyuhyun's face.

Feeling Ryeowook's touch, Kyuhyun's eyes slowly opened.

"Kyuhyun-ah." Ryeowook said softly, kissing him gently on the lips.

"Wookie." Kyuhyun tried to get up, but Ryeowook stopped him.

"Rest, okay? I'll be right here." Ryeowook told him, his voice sweet as honey, as he took a seat next to the bed and continued stroking Kyuhyun's hair.

"I want to sleep on your lap." Kyuhyun mumbled. So Ryeowook got onto the bed and carefully placed Kyuhyun's head on his lap before he resumed his stroking. "Sleep, baby..." Ryeowook murmured. And as Kyuhyun began to fall asleep, Ryeowook wondered if he and Kyuhyun would ever get to live happily ever after.

(Chen)

They had been surrounded by peacekeepers. Chen, Tao, Lay, Kris, and Luhan. Their guns were out of bullets, and even if they fought with their hands and swords, they were greatly outnumbered.

"Before I die!" Kris shouted, "I just wanted to tell you that I've always loved you Lay!"

"Is this confession time?" Chen raised his voice so he could he heard, "'Cause if yes then I love you Luhan!"

"Wait what?" Kris and Tao shouted, "I thought you liked Xiumin!"

"I gave up on him a while ago!" Chen shouted back.

"I love you too Chenchen!" Luhan screamed, and this got the biggest surprise of all, "BUT YOU'RE STRAIGHT!" they all screeched at him.

Luhan, acting cool even when he was near death, simply shrugged, "I never said I was! You just all assumed it!"

"WHAT THE FUCK!" Chen screamed, "WE'VE BEEN MISUNDERSTANDING FOR YEARS!"

"I never said I liked girls!" Luhan retorted.

"I'm sorry Tao!" Kris yelled as he kicked a peacekeeper away from him.

"About what?" Chen asked.

"Nothing!" Tao yelped.

"Tell him now!"

"No!"

"Fine! I'll tell him then! Chen! Tao likes you!"

"HE JUST SAID HE LIKES LUHAN YOU GIT! OH GOD CHEN IT'S NOT TRUE OKAY NOT TRUE!"

The peacekeepers closed in.

"We're gonna die!" Lay screamed, "I don't care about who likes who! Go work out your love issues in heaven!"

"So positive!" Luhan yelled, "Good bye guys! It was nice knowing you!" He closed his eyes, but instead of dying, they all heard a loud boom and they all knocked off their feet.

"What-?" Chen asked in confusion. The peacekeepers around them lay dead on the ground. And ... there, leaning out of the window of a hovercraft that had not been there at first, was Xiumin, "Miss me?" he grinned.

"I LOVE YOU XIUMIN!" Luhan screamed, and Chen muttered, "Changed his mind pretty fast, didn't he?"

"Don't worry buddy," Lay grinned, "I think you're just as suited to Tao as Luhan and Xiumin."

"You ship a lot." Chen observed, feeling rather amused.

"Yes, but my OTP will forever be me and Kris." Lay laughed and Chen hit him on the arm softly.

"Get on board idiots." Xiumin said, "The Xiu-man is gonna take you off to war in style."

(Kangin)

Kangin felt thankful that Donghae had pulled him away from the bomb in time. What he was not thankful for was that they, at the front of the crowd, were the ones closest to the fire it had caused.

"Run!" Donghae cried from beside him.

"Where?" he yelled back.

"Through the fire!"

"You're crazy!"

"No! We can't turn back anyway!" Donghae took Eunhyuk and Kangin's hands, "Jump right over it, together, okay?"

There was no arguing now. "1...2...3...GO!" Donghae shouted and together they ran and leaped over the fire, "My shoe!" Kangin could hear Eunhyuk yelp, and he guessed that Eunhyuk's shoe must have caught fire.

Donghae let go of their hands and they tumbled onto the ground, well at least he and Eunhyuk did, Donghae landed very gracefully.

"My shoe!" Eunhyuk used his other foot to stamp on the one that had caught fire until it burned out.

"Is your foot okay?" Donghae asked, examining his boyfriend's foot. Kangin felt hurt seeing this, he wondered if he and Leeteuk could ever be like that. He was worried about where Leeteuk was now, was he hurt?

"Fine, my shoe isn't though." Eunhyuk held up what was let of his now black, shriveled shoe. It dangled awkwardly from Eunhyuk's fingers and Kangin could not resist laughing.

"Uh oh." Eunhyuk said as peacekeepers ran out from the mansion towards them. He pocketed the shoe, "The spoils of war." This sent Kangin and Donghae into another peal of laughter despite the fact that they were now outnumbered.

It felt good to laugh in the face of death.

At least, Kangin thought it was the face of death until a hovercraft came swooping down with a ladder and Chen stuck his head out of the window, "Climb on peasants!"

"Chen!" Donghae clapped in delight as he started to climb.

"The Xiu-man saves the day!" They heard Xiumin whoop from inside the hovercraft.

Kangin and Eunhyuk exchanged surprised looks, Xiumin had been nothing but reserved around them, But now ... "Guess he's pretty wild just like the rest of them after all." Kangin muttered as he followed Eunhyuk up the ladder and climbed for his life.

(Henry)

Henry and Heechul sat in silence, they could hear Ryeowook and Kyuhyun whispering from inside their tent, and they felt relieved that at least one of the three injured ones had woken up.

Henry himself knew what it felt like to nearly die. He had gone through that many times.

Suddenly, Doctor Baekhyun came rushing out of Kibum's tent, "He's awake." Baekhyun said urgently and Heechul rushed in.

Now the only one left was Leeteuk, the one they all loved the most.
