"There are times when the mind is dealt such a blow it hides itself in insanity. There are times when reality is nothing but pain, and to escape that pain, the mind must leave reality behind."

Steve's POV

The emergency meeting Tony called in has been going on for almost an hour, and things are not going well.
Fury is set on keeping Nova in a cell and is considering moving her in The Raft.
"She was brainwashed, for God's sake! What was she supposed to do?" Tony argues, standing in front of Fury.
"We should help her, not lock her up." Nat chimes in, trying to sedate another fight.
"She almost killed two of my agents." Fury shouts, looking at Tony.
"But she didn't." I point out.
I know Fury has rules, and he doesn't trust Nova.
He doesn't trust Bucky either, but he let them work, giving them a chance to gain his trust. Nova's slip has blow that out of the water.
"If what happened gets to the United Nations, we are screwed. Not even the Accords will keep them from wanting your heads on a stick." Fury seethes, moving his eye over each of us.

"She's staying in that damn cell. End of discussion. No buts, no visits. I'm handling this." Fury dismisses us, and we leave the conference room.
"We can't leave her there," Nat mutters, sitting in the shared area.
"It's not like we can break her out." Wanda hesitates, sitting next to Natasha.
"I'll try to talk to Fury again." Tony sighs, rubbing his face.
He's worn out and stressed. This whole situation must be hard on him.
So much happened in such a short time. I don't even know if anyone had the time to comprehend it.
Lagos, the school, and now this.
I wonder how much she can take before actually breaking.

Nova's POV

I realize I'm awake, but I don't dare open my eyes.
I don't want to find out I'm back in one of Hydra's cells.
I don't remember what happened after Belov ordered me to go after Steve and the others, but I remember Steve talking to me.
It shouldn't be like that. I used to remember more after being activated. But this time, it was like I was in a sort of trance, not able to understand what I was doing.
I started to grow more aware when I heard Steve.
He talked to me, he said my name.
That's when I finally saw him.
But I still had Belov in my head, and trying to push him out felt like peeling my own skin off.
God, did I hurt him?
Did I hurt anyone?

I take a deep breath and open my eyes.
I'm in a cell, but seeing the SHIELD logo makes my chest feel a bit lighter.
At least I'm not at Hydra.
I slowly sit up, leaning my back against the wall.
There's an electric buzz, and I turn my face to the door.
What looks like a doctor walks in, holding a tablet.
"Morning, Agent Murphy." He says briefly, looking down at his tablet.
"Morning? How long I have been here?" I croak, feeling my mouth is completely dry.
"Two days," he mutters, still focused on whatever he's looking at.
"My accommodation suggests I won't be leaving. Is that correct?" I sigh, already knowing the answer.
"I'm here to check on your status. How are you feeling?" He ignores my question.
"Can I speak to someone? Stark or I don't know... Do I need a lawyer?" I highly doubt I'd be allowed to have a lawyer, but I guess I've to try at least.

I don't know if Tony and the others are still willing to help me. I don't know if they still trust me.
"You are not allowed to have visitors. Are you experiencing nausea or dizziness?" I start to feel pretty pissed. They have to let me talk to him. At least one last time.
"I need to talk to Stark." I insist, standing up.
I immediately fall back on the bed, my legs feeling like jelly.
The doctor sighs and walks over to me.
His hand moves to my face, and I twist his wrist, pulling his hand away.
He hisses in pain, and I let go.
"I'm sorry," I panic, confused.
I didn't mean to hurt him. It was just reflex.
He stares at me for a few seconds, and the fear in his eyes leaves me speechless.
That's what they see?
Of course they do.
He walks out of the cell without saying anything.
