Chapter: [13] Hollow

I finally felt happy and fulfilled with my life, living together with Levi as a family. It has already been 5 months since we moved in together and everything went even smoother than I expected. We were clicking with each other in every aspect of everyday life, enjoying every moment together. It felt almost surreal, how my life has changed after I met him and we fell in love with each other.

When we wake up in the morning, we usually drink coffee and have breakfast together, then Levi takes me to university to study or to Hime, if I have an early shift, picking me up in the evening. We exchange messages a lot, as I send him pictures and give him updates of my day and he complains about his work.  Sometimes I like to distract him with some dirty texts since I know perfectly well what kind of power it has over him and what kind of punishment I'll get for it when we get home. I also hang out with Touka a lot, as we have more and more homework and exam preparation to do.

Levi stopped hunting and sold the basement where he used to store bodies. It felt like a true relief for both him and me, as now he was getting food from some "steady supplier", and although he didn't want to disclose their identity, I was happy enough to know that he's living a much safer and guilt-free life. He seemed more happy and relaxed, smiled more and it was sending me on cloud nine to see him like this. There were no updates from the CCG on Levi's case on the news since the day we saw that report about two new investigators from Germany. I secretly prayed all this time for them to close the case because it seemed impossible to get new evidence that could lead them to Levi. The only thing I was worried about was Kenny's body that could be found in the basements where Levi killed him, rescuing me. I even suggested that we could go there and get rid of it somehow, but Levi insisted that we leave things as they are, since we could only leave more trails. I agreed and never brought it up again.

Everything felt too perfect to believe that it was happening for real. But like everything in this life, it couldn't stay this way for too long.

It's an usual day for Levi at work. After two and a half hours in a fully packed conference room, the meeting with his boss and investors finally ends and he decides to go out for his smoke break to get some needed air and a dose of nicotine. This fucking habit will be the end of me one day, I should consider quiting. Though Y/N might not like the idea... He takes an elevator downstairs and goes out of the building to the common smoking area near the entrance.

The March weather was still considered cold, but the sun is shining so bright that the temperature is slightly higher than usual. Sitting on the bench, Levi lights up his cigarette, enjoying a cool wind caressing his face. He still has two meetings to attend to this day but he already feels like going home and spending some time with you. Deciding on sending you a message about his unbearably boring meeting, he takes his phone out of his pocket.

As he does so, he spots two unfamiliar figures near the entrance of the building. His vision was always good and it was boosted even more by his ghoul's ability, so he can see them pretty well. Both wearing the CCG coats, they stop at the entrance, one of them smoking a cigarette and another searching for something in his phone. A charge of panic shots through Levi's body. Those are... I know them... no fucking way...

The two CCG German investigators Zeke and Eren Yeager are about to enter the building where he works. 

He stops his growing panic to think rationally, coming up with the best course of action. They found me. I cannot go back inside. Levi waits for the investigators to go through the entrance and as they do so, quickly gets up from the bench, heading to the parking lot to get his car.

While he drives away from the area as fast as possible, his mind is boiling with the possible scenarios of what might happen next. They'll get his home address from his superiors, that's for sure - everyone will cooperate after finding out his true nature. They'll probably call the reinforcement and go there, getting all the needed information and a master-key from the reception. Then they'll break into the apartment, hoping to catch Levi off-guard and search through his stuff when they won't discover him there. They'll find your belongings and ask the receptionist about other people living with him, eventually finding their way to you and bringing you to justice and... No. This can't happen. I won't let them get to Y/N.
