- BELLE -
Sat side by side, we ate in silence. The squirrel had gone down quickly, or the half I had anyway and the yams - although tasteless - were far better than the mushrooms I struggled to swallow.
We had three each. Roasted and smoked over the fire that we had managed to alight after our... Showers.
And I thought that usually thanks to survival mode, my taste buds would accept anything right now for the pure sake of natural selection.
But I couldn't be far from wrong.
Mushrooms were still the devil's anus.
It took me perhaps fifteen minutes just to eat one and that still entailed regular gagging, chewing and face screwing inwards.
I could tell Draco was having a great time. He found the ordeal hilarious. So much so he put his food to the side as he enjoyed watching me struggle.
Goggle eyed and amused, Draco huffed a laugh as I chewed, my cheeks puffed outward as I struggled to swallow the oozy mess in my mouth.
'You having fun there?' Malfoy teased and immediately I retaliated with my own insult.
'-Fuck off.'
His indecent laugh became louder, 'Not a fan of mushrooms?'
I swallowed, finally, but my fist held my lips closed as I had to take a quick second to gather up the willpower inside me to not throw up.
That was a level of embarrassment I wasn't ready to experience just yet.
Finally after a few seconds, my stomach decided to settle and shifted uncomfortably on the stone floor, 'Mushrooms are not my most favourite.'
'You don't say?' Draco laughed a third, causing me to scowl at him.
I gazed over my palm which still held three tall brown mushrooms. And Draco must've noticed my hesitance. The shroud feeling of uncertainty.
I could only hope that he began to feel guilty. But then again, that level of hope was like putting too many eggs in one basket. Or asking a pig to fly.
Surprisingly, something within him must've changed. Because only today had I noticed that his violence wasn't so present anymore. Not that I was complaining of course.
It was great. But strange. I couldn't speak too soon though. Draco Malfoy was always full of surprises.
And they always say to expect the unexpected.
But this? Definitely extraordinary.
Draco took two small yams from his leaf of a plate and handed it to me, 'Here, give me your mushrooms.'
Gawking I was. Staring dumbfoundedly at his open hand and I had to blink hard twice to recollect the offer he had just made.
'God dammit Belle don't make this any more awkward just take the fucking potatoes!' Draco scoffed.
My cheeks flared a deep crimson and quickly swapped our foods over, 'They're yams..' I mumbled, taking a small bite, 'Thanks.' I said even quieter.
