- BELLE -
'It's okay, I'm here. I told you I'd come back.'
My palms moulded his pink cheeks, a reassurance to atone myself that he was alive.
At first I panicked when I heard a shriek of boots climbing up behind me and I had to suspect that there was a possibility I was found. Especially since I heard the killing curse. Then the green light.
Traumatising in itself, I feared the worst.
There was blood all over his face, like small freckles tainted the paleness of his layers. Accentuating the contrast.
I didn't care if some of that blood smudged from his face onto my hands and all over his cheeks. All I cared about at that moment was that we survived. Somehow.
He was breathing. I felt his heart and was pounding. Filled with life. Each drop of his own blood circulated alongside the adrenaline that dispersed within.
'How did you do it?' I breathily asked, my hands still glued onto him and his onto my waist. His silver hues not once left mine.
His presence was enticing. Necessary. Complimentary.
The feeling was comforting, I felt safe. And it wasn't just because we had to keep warm in the torturous winter, it was because I had grown such comfort around him, that it felt odd when I was alone.
Regardless of the arguments, the violence we threw at each other and my annoyance, I was glad he was in my life. Because he brought out the confidence in me I'd always withhold.
We all had our faults. His more justified than mine. Perhaps to a degree. But that was something I'd come to learn whenever he'd be comfortable doing so.
However, the question I asked was left unanswered when I saw his lips curl upwards into the almighty deviousess that screamed Malfoy.
It was a question I'd let him ignore, but an act I would admire. I saved him thrice, he saved me the same back.
Firstly when we were in the basement, secondly at the abandoned warehouse and now, where he'd kill those men. For me. For us.
And he came back. Alive and well. Smirking like a child at Christmas.
The Draco I met at the cabin in the forest would've left me there to die. To rot and snarl at my pain. He would condone it all. Eat popcorn watching so.
But something in our plan changed.
The story was interrupted with its own plot twist. Not that I minded. Because we kept each other sane and insane. He drove me mad and I hated his sudden bursts of anger. But for what I had done at times, it could've been worse.
My thumb trailed over a thin cut on his upper cheek, just beneath his eye where my own aquas followed. Thin and straight, easy for me to heal.
But like he read my mind, his leathery gloved palm softly wrapped around my wrist and lightly squeezed.
'Don't heal it.' Draco whispered, lips falling.
Brows knotting tightly, I blinked back, 'Why? It's only a thin cut.'
