Two- shot

The night was windy. You could see all the lights and decorations for valentine’s day. Literally, nobody was on the same bridge as you. Nobody was at the Han river that night for some reason. Oh right! Nobody wants to leave their beautiful life. It’s just you.

Why Valentine’s Day? Well, everything happened the same day exactly one year ago. You were dating a guy, the son of a famous CEO. He studied at the same school you study at right now. He still studies there too.

You and Jason were childhood friends. You guys did every single thing together. In high school, he was the most handsome student known until some other guy transferred- that’s another story.

Two years ago, Jason asked you to be his girlfriend in front of the whole school. Who would have said no, right? And so you agreed as you may have a little crush on him. You weren’t dating him for his money. Not at all, you were genuinely interested in him.

He was too sweet at first. So sweet that it was hard to believe that such guys exist. Everything went smooth for a year; you didn’t have any enemies and all the mean girls never bullied you because of Jason. Both of your parents accepted your relationship and in fact, your parents were more than happy to hear the news.

Your parents. Things changed as time passed. Everything came crashing down when you thought it was the best time of your life. On your first anniversary with Jason, you caught him cheating. Caught.
He wasn’t even trying to hide or be sneaky at all. You entered the school ground, the place where Jason asked you to be his girlfriend, to see him making out with the popular girl, shamelessly.

And to add on to that, when you confronted him, he said that you were never his type. That he had his needs that you could never fulfil. This fact overpowered the fact that you caught your boyfriend cheating on you. He played you. You were embarrassed and disappointed. Disappointed in yourself. He let all those years of friendship go just like that.

Not only that, when you came home that night; depressed, shattered, ashamed, disappointed and what not. You expected a warm hug and comfort from your family especially your mother. But what you got? Got nothing, instead, you lost everything. Home, family, friends- every source of love, comfort.
They disowned you after they came to know about the break up cause apparently, you were not their biological daughter. Your real parents died in a plane crash and your father’s most trusted friend was given your authority.

They said that the only good thing you ever did was date Jason and now that he broke up with you, you were useless. And that they wanted to remove the burden off their shoulders after all the years they had been keeping up with you.

You were literally kicked out. So much to take in at once. You didn’t know where to go. Fortunately, an old lady found you on the roadside and gave you a place and mattress to sleep on in her small house. She gave you a lot of motivation and support and she helped you get a part-time job at a café nearby.
The café was very famous and in need of dedicated workers and so they paid you high after your first week of working. You started earning enough money to pay your school fee and you would give some money to the old lady as rent.

Things were a bit stable for 7 months despite all the stares and bullying with comments you would receive at school. You tried to ignore all that. But thing got too much when the old lady, you were living with started having health issues. She had to stop working and so you replaced her at her job and worked twice a day with school.

Soon, the lady gave up and died. You were left all alone, yet again. Which leads you here, standing at the Han River Bridge, staring at the water. You were thinking of the damage that would happen if you jump from there, in the water.
You would drown, for sure cause you don’t know how to swim. The places you’re working at- well, they’ll find new workers. And what else? That’s it. Will someone get sad? You don’t think so. Instead, people would be happy and you would be at peace.

Closing your eyes, thick droplets of tears fell. You slightly smiled after exhaling deeply. A flashback of old memories, how you used to be so happy, grinning widely, you suddenly sobbed. I pity myself. I’m sorry if I am going to disappoint you by doing this mom and dad. But I have no choice now.

Letting your body fall into the cold river, you tried to remain calm and think of the peace after. Not even a second later, your whole body went numb and drowning deeper and deeper.
