That's over

"Josh?"
Tylers dark eyebrows knitted together as he had seemingly lost all attention. It wasn't like Josh to shift his attention to his phone whenever someone was talking to him, especially not when that someone was Brendon or Tyler. And especially not when it was a serious conversation.
As promised Tyler had initiated the conversation about his share in the monthly expenses. They all agreed on how he would contribute to their financial situation, and it immediately had made Tyler feel better and a more full part of this household. Less roommate, more boyfriend. He did earn way less then Brendon and Josh did, but they reassured and convinced him that was no issue. Together they earned a healthy living and it didn't matter that one put in more than the other.
Tyler was glad they understood he wanted to do his fair share, and they easily put their full financial situation on the table. No secrets there either. They all agreed on a plan quickly, and they would call the bank in the upcoming week to see if there were any options to add him to their shared bank account. Another one of those things that seemed so simple in a 'regular' relationship that suddenly got questionable in a triad.
After the conversation Brendon had took off to the garage for a run on their recently bought treadmill. Josh and Tyler were still sitting at the table, just chatting more about if Tyler felt at home, what they could possibly do to make it more home for him as well and just thinking out loud.

That until a notification on Josh's phone took his attention away from Tyler. Usually he'd just put it aside but this time his gaze was glued on the screen. "Josh?"
He didn't even blink, but when he opened the message Tyler saw the color on Joshs cheeks completely disappear. Tyler stood up, worried, walking to Josh and trying to get his attention. "Josh, please, are you okay? What's wrong?" Tyler questioned, voice full of concern.

"Y-yeah, sorry", Josh mumbled before shifting his gaze to find Tylers. "Can- can you please get Brendon here?" he asked before his pale face turned back to his phone. "They're dead."

Tyler's heart beat much faster now, wanting to ask who, what, where, but first did what Josh asked. "Stay right here", he said while gently touching his arm. He knew Josh wasn't going anywhere but he was scared the boy would pass out if he tried to stand up. Quickly Tyler sprinted to the garage.

For maybe half a second Tyler got distracted with the fact Brendon wasn't wearing a shirt, staring at him, until he realized Brendon was looking at him with a smug grin. Tyler then immediately zoned back in and quickly gestured for Brendon to take off his headphones, which the eldest really saw the concern on Tyler's face.
Brendon was breathing heavy, pausing the treadmill as he took a deep breath. "What's wrong?" he asked as he quickly wiped some drops of sweat away with a towel.

The youngest then shrugged in a state of confusion. "I'm not sure, but Josh got a message and someone is dead?" Tyler felt like that was a bit blunt but honestly it was all he knew and he shrugged again, as an apology maybe. Brendon's face filled with more concern, quickly grabbing his shirt and putting it on while stepping off the treadmill. He walked fast, grabbing Tyler's arm while walking by and together they rushed back to the kitchen.

"They're dead. Dead." Josh started immediately when the boys sat down on either side of him. "Who, baby?" Brendon asked carefully, hand on Josh's arm in an attempt to keep him grounded. Tyler just carefully watched them both, noticing Josh's face was no longer as deadly pale as it was a minute ago.
Josh looked up from his phone, eyes shifting between Brendon and Tyler.
"My parents", Josh nearly whispered. He handed his phone to Tyler, as he continued talking. "Hayley messaged me? She was one of my best friends in school. We kinda lost track when Brendon and I moved away... she was the only one who really knew we were dating."
Tyler carefully read her message as Josh kept talking.

hey Josh! Hayley here! I know we haven't talked in forever, but i hope you're doing well! Are you and Brendon still together?
You must wonder why i'm suddenly messaging you, but something happened and i'm not sure if you got the news yet. So the thing is, last week your parents were in a huge car crash on the highway, and they didn't make it. Your father died on the scene, your mom yesterday in hospital. I'm sorry to have to bring this news to you, in case you didn't know yet. It's been in the news multiple times cus.. well, you know they're kind of a 'big deal' around here.
