"Alright, baby girl, how do you want your hair combed today?" Jonathan asked Serenity as she was sitting on her bed. He stood in front of her, prepared to style his daughter's hair. Serenity was too busy digging in her hair box, looking for her yellow bow, she didn't hear him.
"Ren, do you hear Daddy talking to you?" Jonathan asked.
"Huh?" Serenity replied in a confused tone, looking up at him.
"I asked you how you want your hair combed today." Usually, Noelle would comb Serenity and Joy's hair, but she wasn't with them this afternoon. Jonathan was more than capable of combing his daughters' hair. He's done plenty of times before and he did as great as Noelle did. He had no choice to learn to style their hair being that he was single father. Sure, he could rely on Noelle, but much like today, she wouldn't always be available.
"Um." She took a moment to think about it. "You can just do one ponytail today. Braid it, and I want this bow, please." She said handing her father a purple bow to match her outfit.
"That works for Daddy." Jonathan said happily. He grabbed the spray bottle from the bucket and sprayed her hair. After spraying her hair, he combed through it then applied the kid's Shea Moisture to it. It took longer than usual because Serenity kept turning her head while talking to Joy.
"What about you?" Jonathan asked Joy as he sat her Serenity's bed.
"Like sissy." Joy answered almost immediately. Once they were both dressed and ready to go, Jonathan sat them on the couch to watch TV. He still had to get himself ready to go. Knowing exactly what he was going to wear, it was rather quick.
"Dada, I want to put pineapples and the read circle stuff." Joy said with the brightest smile on her face. Pizza was one of her favorite foods. In just a few minutes she would creating her own pizza, and she could watch as it was made. She couldn't put words to her excitement for this moment.
"Pepperoni?" Jonathan chuckled as he looked at her in his arms because she had tiny legs and walked entirely too slow. Blaze Pizza was crowded as it always is. He didn't need her getting lost in the traffic.
Joy furrowed brows, thinking of how to pronounce the word. "Peppa..."
"Roni." Jonathan added.
She formed her mouth to say but laughed at herself. "Dada, I can't say that!"
"Why not?"
"Because it's hard!" Jonathan laughed with her before slowly helping her with the pronunciation. By the time they made to the front of the line, Joy could say pepperoni. He picked Serenity up so that she could her pizza being made, just like her sister. It warmed Jonathan's heart to see his daughters smiling blissfully- specially over something so simple as pizza. He was blessed in more ways than one.
All three of them agreed on sitting outside of the restaurant, oppose to inside- with cold air blowing. It wasn't hot enough to sit underneath the air conditioning.
"Daddy-" Serenity started with a mouth full of pizza. She sat across from her father as Joy was sitting in his lap. Joy had a mouth full of pizza, she danced happily in his lap.
"Chew your food first." Jonathan told her sternly as he sat across from her. She closed her mouth, sighed, then chew her food.
"Can we get ice cream?" Serenity asked politely.
"Pizza and ice cream?" Jonathan questioned with a smile.
"Yes, please!" She replied.
"Pretty please!" Joy added.
