Alex

I stared at my shoes, Very soon. I will be  called into the church and I was standing just outside.

"You look handsome" Mom smiled.
"Thank you" I said looking away.
"I..." She began.
"The groom may enter" the officiant announced.

I walked down the aisle. I felt numb. It was supposed to be the best day of my life but I felt nothing.

After flashes of camera light, Lady was called in escorted by her father.

I saw Smart instead. We have imagined this scenario and whispered about it almost every night before sleeping.
We stood before the Reverend father.

I sat through the sermon and I couldn't recall anything until it was time to exchange rings.

My hands shook when I held the ring.
"Alex de Salva, Do you take Lady Miranda Cosgrove to be your lawfully wedded wife, in.." He began.
"Lady" I interrupted taking the microphone from him.

"Don't do this" Lady Whispered.

"I once asked you if you wanted to marry a man who would leave you at the altar, you never gave me a reply.. to the Cosgrove, To my parents, friends, siblings.. to my lovely daughter.. I'm sorry that I'm a failure.. these four weeks, I've thought about it so much and today.. it's a little late but.. I'm sorry, I can't subject myself to a lifetime of misery.. I rather stay alone without getting married.. I'm sorry Lady"I said and walked away ignoring the murmur.

I knelt down outside crying, Someone reached out and hugged me tightly.
It was Simon.

" Its okay little bro, you did great.. I'm sorry I couldn't protect you but I'm going to"He led me to his car and we drove off.

My father was gonna kill me for the embarrassment but I didn't care.
Simon led me into the house and the news was already covering what happened at the church.

'get him water" Simon ordered.

"I'm so sorry, I couldn't do it.. I couldn't say the vows, I can't"I kept whispering shaking.
Simon helped remove my suit and brought a bucket since I kept vomiting and my legs couldn't keep me up for a minute.

Dad walked in.
" You really have the guts to come back here after the stunt you pulled "He wakes towards me and slapped me.

" Salva"mom called.
" Dad. That's enough, you can't force Alex into a marriage that will suffocate him no matter what"Simon stood before me shielding me with his body.

" Dad, we are fed up with your overbearing attitude, you gave birth to us doesn't mean you have to control our lives"Sarah joined her twin brother.

" How dare you" Dad shouted.

"Its enough now Dad.." Simon said.

Two arms grabbed me and pulled me into her soft warmth.
"I'm so sorry.. I'm so sorry, I was blinded by my greed .. I'm so sorry I could have led you into a life and misery and anger.. I'm sorry I almost killed my son " Mom cried.

At that moment, I let go. I hold her and cried.
I cried for myself, Smart, Lady, my family.
I cried because I almost entered into a lifetime of anger and despair.
I almost ruined my life.

I didn't have to marry Lady to keep Smart safe.
I cried of relief because I didn't have to live bitterly anymore.
