Zoya's pov.
It was as if someone had dunked cold water over my body. Chills ran down my arms, my limbs freezing as I stared the panic that rose up in the family. The tensed environment breaking with a crash and I stumbled as a wounded mother ran after her son's to the aid of the eldest.
Cries and screams surrounded me as I felt a sharp sting on my cheek. My eyes turned to be met my aunts, Ushna phuppo was yelling, saying something but I couldn't make up for the words she was saying. My ears were running and I felt my throat clog with the pain that I refuse to let out.
"It's all because of you"
"It's all your fault"
"I told you she's cursed. Our family will die at her hands"
Multiple voices screamed as the men ran out of the house and the their cars roared to a hurried start.
I found my eyes lowering as moisture gathered at the base of my eyes and I felt my body being thrown back on the ground.
I looked up as the pain shot up my elbow and back as I tried to break my fall. Muznah Chachi glared at me and I took the hatred in her eyes with a glistening gaze.
"You should've died when you had the chance." She spat the words at my face and walked away leaving me to tend to myself as I sat on the cold marble floor numb beyond revival.
The phone in my hand vibrated but I couldn't bring my arm up to even look at it. It was as if my arms were weighted down and the strength in my body dissolved with the adrenaline rushing in my veins.
The vibration kept going on and I finally took the risk to look at the screen. Without a word I pulled the phone up to my ear and was met with a deep voice asking how I was doing.
"How naive of you little fox? You just don't learn, do you?" He asked in a husky tone making me blink at the ground slowly. The hair on my face irritated me but I was too numb to even move them away.
"How many lives will you take, hm? Why can't you see Zoya? The more you live away from me the more you'll loose. The moment you come back to your real place it'll all stop" he spoke softly, almost too softly as if trying to talk a child out of its tantrum.
"Leave them little fox. They don't deserve this and you. Stop resisting the truth. Didn't I tell you not to fight against me? Wasn't one demo enough for you?" He asked. His tone a mixture of mocking and concern.
"What did you think? Did you really believe that Zaryab will help you? A man who I pay to even breathe, see you even got you're poor friend involved." He said and a gunshot rang in my ear from the other side along with the cry of a woman.
