She stood outside her father's room anticipating what she was about to do. How will she face him and let him know that she has to leave. She wants to do something for her parents. Bring them the help she survived for. Bring them the peace she was given a life for.
She knows he's also right but he's her only support. She couldn't trust anyone else nor could she ask anyone else for help.
"Come in" a voice called from behind the door. Her breath hitched and her hands soaked with sweat.
She gulped down the anxiety twisting the knob. She pushed the door and stepped inside. Her father stood by his desk with a file in hand.
She clutched the ends of her sweater and walked further in the room closing the door.
"Baba" she called making him turn around and stare at her for a long minute.
"Yes Zoya?" He asked. His voice so straight she shivered inwardly.
"Baba I.." she started.
"If... You're here to have that same conversation again then don't try. I'm not going to let you meddle with these things" he said marking something in the file.
"Baba please" she whined making him shut the file with a loud thud that made her flinch.
"Zoya.. enough is enough" he gritted.
"Baba"
"Zoya" he roared and she flinched visibly this time.
"Enough of you doing things that are too risky for your own good. I've always let you do what you wanted but this is too much. Don't take my lenience for granted. You're not a child anymore nor a foolish person."
"Baba why can't you understand?" She groaned.
"What? Is this about the property? The family property? Are you after that?" he yelled throwing the file on the bed.
Her eyes stayed stuck on the file and she felt them blur from the tears that pained her. She sniffed and his attention diverted to her. He moved forward to comfort her, his anger washing away slowly.
"You really think I'm doing this for the property? Do I really look or act like someone who's only after money? I never expected this from you baba. Not only jhanzaib but you also think of me as an outsider. I don't want something that doesn't belongs to me" she cried jerking away from his hold.
"It's not like that Zoya. Listen to me." He said holding her arm and making her sit on the bed. She wiped her tears harshly making his heart clench.
"Then what? I had one person who I thought will help me with no doubts. One person I thought who knew I wouldn't do anything without a reason then baba why are you becoming the complete opposite?" She cried covering her face with her hands.
"Zoya mera bacha. It's not some goon you're trying to stand against. It's khan. If you think I don't know who that man is or how far his reach is then you're wrong. Even when the man isn't physically here his name alone is enough to make people turn away from humanity. Please understand. I don't care about myself. I'm willing to help but your safety is something I promised Maheen and now your parents" he said holding her tight.
"It's my parents I want to fight for second myself. My baba didn't sacrifice his life just for the internet to hold false information about him. Tell me baba if I die with a false allegation on my name would you not prove me innocent?" She asked looking up at him. His grey eyes lowered but they lifted up again.
"I won't let anyone bad mouth you in your life, after life is far gone" he said making her tears find their way down on a faster pace.
"Then how do you expect me to stay silent when my the name of people who gave birth to me get stained? Please baba hear me out. Become my support. From what I've spoken to advocate Merzia about states that winning this case will be easier on our account we just need to proceed it" she pleaded making him hold back the refusal.
