Loading up the dishes from the families lunch Jamie and his grandmother moved in a comfortable silence, at least it was comfortable for the older omega. For Jamie the look of fury from is mother and mate were burned into his mind as he cleaned the dishes by hand, per his grandmothers request.
"Be careful not to leave any food when you wash them sweet heart. " she told him drying one of the large pans and placing it back on the counter.
"I know, but why aren't we putting them in dishwasher? It's faster and easier." he questioned putting a plate back into the cabinet.
"Because a dishwasher is so impersonal and an alpha's tool. It's an omegas job to cook, clean and look after the house, but I'm sure you know that since you've been going to that fancy school." the older woman waved him off.
"That is if they've been teaching you properly and not filling your head with that 'progressive thinking' garbage that we're all equal." she scoffed as Jamie continued to clean.
"What's wrong with that?" Jamie asked tentatively.
"It's unrealistic. Alpha's will always have the monopoly in everything and omegas will always be looked down upon. That's why you should take pride in your ability to take care of your family because that who we all are, male or female omegas alike, it's in our blood." she said patting him on the back.
"But mom is great at all these things but she's not an omega." Jamie challenged lightly.
"Your mother is a wonderful alpha, a beautiful woman and could've made another omega very happy but instead decided to marry your father and now she has to do things that are fundamentally unnatural to her." she explained.
"But-"
"You just don't understand but in my experience parings like your parents have a very low success rate. I'm sure you've seen how your siblings get with each other at times, now imagine that but the fights never stop. In those types of situations nobody wins, not the couple and especially not the pups." she said with a far away look of pain in her eyes.
"That's why I'm so happy you found yourself a strong and beautiful alpha like Elaine. That'll make a great environment as your pups grow." she smiled softly as they continued to clean in silence leaving Jamie to think on her words.

"She's just so condescending and acts like she's not insulting me right to my face. In front of my own children no less." Martha vented angrily as she threw the heavy seventy pound medicine over to Elaine.
"Is she always like that? I don't remember her being this bad when I visited her last time." Elaine asked, catching and throwing the medicine ball back to her mother-in-law in a big arc.
"For the most part yes, she is. The difference between last time and this time is we went to visit her at her home, a place where she had all the control and final say." she explained throwing it back.
"Ok, but it seems like her problems with you more than anything. What's the deal with that." the mocha alpha asked throwing it back.
"It's a long story but lets just say she has a problem with what I am more than with me specifically." she said vaguely.
"A problem with what you are?" Elaine repeated confused
"What do you mean? You're a smocking hot, red head with a amazing body despite giving birth, have a body builder as a mate, earns a shit load of money and has four pups of your own. One of whom I'm mated to so thank you for that. Most families I know would show you off like their favorite ornament" Elaine complimented her mother in law as she dropped the ball to the gym floor.
"I wasn't fishing for that so thank you." she smiled at her daughter in laws compliments, "but that's not it".
"I don't exactly make a habit of saying this but let's just say back in the day Ruth had plans for Luther and when I came along I wrecked her plans." she told her.
"What kind of plans?" Elaine asked sipping on her water.
"Back in the day she and her family knew this well off oil man and his family and she and her mate both wanted Luther to marry one of the families single omega daughters to help them "spread the family business" as it were."
"Ok, but what does that have to do with what you are?" Elaine asked confused."Well if you payed any attention at school you would know that alpha parings are rare because fundamentally two alpha's are incompatible. The only way I got pregnant was because I'm a female alpha and we do poses the genetic ability to have birth pups of our own if our mates are unable to, so long as that mate is male."
"But for the most part the attempts are unsuccessful and the pups die early on or in child birth. Ruth is an old fashioned omega and she thinks that only omegas should be giving birth to pups and only omegas should be doing all the so called "house work" like cooking and cleaning."
"So that's why she keeps trying to get you to do other things but house work." Elaine reasoned.
"Yes and I just can't stand it! I mean Luther and I went though a lot to even get to where we are so why does she have to pile on." Martha groaned, falling into a chair wiping the sweat from her brow.
"Damn, I guess my own family drama isn't so bad after all." Elaine laughed lightly.
"Speaking of, I couldn't help but notice that you seemed rather upset when you asked to join me."
"Oh yeah?" Elaine fake smiled.
"Yeah, I may have been fuming myself but it was kind of hard to miss the attitude change." Martha shrugged picking the medicine ball back up and threw it to her in a high arc.
"What to talk about it?" the older alpha asked once her younger counter part caught the ball.
Elaine was silent as she threw the ball back with a huff.
"Did it have to do with that those people on the tv were talking about?" she questioned, noticing Elaine demeanor tighten every so slightly.
"Was it about that quarterback named Kingston or something?" she pressed throwing the ball back.
"What you don't like him or something? I think he's overrated myself and quite frankly a cheater." Martha said throwing the ball back.
Still not responding as Elaine threw the ball back and the mother in the older alpha decided enough was enough.
"Elaine, please talk to me. I hate it when my family doesn't talk to me.' she said kindly dropping the ball to grab hold of her daughters-in-law's hands softly.
"It's nothing, it's just...that qb, David Kingston, he's kinda my father." she confessed quietly making the older alpha raise her eye brows shocked.
"Please, tell me what happened.", Martha pleaded, holding her daughter-in-law's hands, giving them a reassuring squeeze.
