My work phone rang.

"Holly Phillips."

"Hey Hol, it's Sydney. Is your phone dead?"

"Um..."

I dug my phone out of my pocket. It looked perfectly fine to me.

"Holly?"

"No, I just have a really bad reception here. Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I just wanted to check in with you."

"Okay."

"So do you have plans after work?"

"Why?"

She sighed. "I just feel like we could use some quality time."

"Why?"

"Why not?"

"It's just an odd thing to say. So what's really going on?"

"I'll explain when you come over here after work today."

"Oh so I don't get a say? Cool."

"But I'll let you pick the time."

I rolled my eyes. "Oh goodie."

"So what time do you get off?"

"About three."

"Okay, so I'll see you around four and I don't mind if you get us coffee beforehand."

"Well I do mind."

"Holly." (all mother like)

I sighed. "Okay fine, text me your order."

"Thank you. So are you okay?"

"Yeah, it's so much fun getting bossed around by my old nanny."

"Well now I'm your older sister!"

"Yay me. Bye Syd."

I hung up the phone and thought about disconnecting the phone, but I didn't want a pissed off Syd coming down here to literally check on me. I know she does care about me, but I want her to treat me like an adult too. I know that I'm still like ten years old in her eyes. So after I clocked out, I placed a mobile order to the Starbucks closest to the village road before I left my work's parking lot. Every single day, Mom ventures out to get Starbucks and has been known to be in the village area. Thankfully there's a handful of locations to pick from, so I'm hoping I won't run into her. I know Mom means well and all, but she will ask me a million and one questions about my day, how work went, what I was up to and would probably want to come with me to Sydney's. So this is why I mobile order every single time, it's less hassle for me.

After I picked up the order, I took the long way to my old neighborhood. I hope I can pull up to Sydney's house and get inside without Mason knowing a thing. I'm pretty okay with anyone else knowing that I'm here, but he will interrogate me if he's given the opportunity to do so. I'm not all that sure why I was summoned here to be completely honest. So if I do happen to see him before going inside, I won't have any answers to all of his burning questions about why I'm here, why I didn't come to see him and when I would be over to see him. I know he wants me to come over more, but hanging out with Mason always feels like a never-ending lecture.

Thankfully I was able to park and walk up to my former house without Mason calling out to me. As I made my way up to the front door, I looked to my right to see that his car wasn't even on the driveway. Granted, he could've parked in the garage, but he still would've seen me, right?

Suddenly the door swung open as Sydney almost knocked the drinks from my hands.

"Holly!"

"Hey. I know you want to hug me, but my hands are full, so may I come in, please?"
