"Well first of all, Lily just became my twin."
Dad looked into my eyes. "Lilian, are you sure that you want to be like her?"
In response, I smiled and grabbed Holly's face. "Yes! I love my sister!"
"Okay, your mistake."
Immediately, Mom smacked Dad for his dumb comment. The noise echoed in the room. Then Dad pouted at Mom as she straight up ignored him. I wanted to say 'good job Mom', but I chickened out. Holly began to laugh and I joined in because her laugh is so contagious!
Dad folded his arms. "Uh that wasn't funny, girls."
"Uh it was to us!" Holly said with a grin.
Mom pointed at Dad. "That's what happens you insult any of my babies."
"Anyway Holly, what did you want to tell your mother and I?"
"Well Lily and I were talking..."
"Uh oh."
Suddenly Holly glared at Dad, but it looked more like a death stare than anything else to me. During times like this, I'm at a loss of what to do. On one hand, I could high-five Holly or I could stay quiet. I have great relationships with both of my parents and all of my siblings, but Holly and I are attached at the hip. (She and I are full sisters.)
The huge issue between Dad and Holly is that they're so much alike that they butt heads. Even though my father didn't create Holly, or me for that matter, he still has a huge influence on her because they've lived together since she was ten. So when they're acting just like this and when I refuse to pick a side, being quiet is my only defense.
"Ignore him, Holly. What were you girls talking about?"
"Anyway like I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, Lily and I were talking and she gave me some good advice. But um do you two want to go ahead with this interview?"
Mom and Dad agreed about having the interview on Friday. They try to be on the same page when the decision affects all of us kids.
"Was that Lily's advice?" Dad asked.
"No, she told me to follow my heart."
Mom smiled at me. "That's my girl!"
I beamed.
All of a sudden, I heard the front door close. I got up to see who it was so if a fight was to break out, I wouldn't be stuck in the crossfire.
"Hello?"
"Dylan!"
Not only is he my big brother, he's also my friend and my protector. I'm so glad that he's in my life! As I ran up to him, he opened his arms for me. Even though I'm known by my family as the ultimate hugger, nothing beats a Dylan hug. It's nice, tight and he doesn't push me off of him. Plus he always smells pleasant, always a bonus in my book.
After I was satisfied, I started to pull him into the living room.
"What's up, Lil?"
"Just come with me."
"But why?"
"Dad's in trouble."
"Wha-what happened? Is he alright?"
"Yes he's fine. I meant he's in trouble with Holly."
"Oh I got to see this!"
He finally followed my lead.
"Hey guys, what's up?"
"Oh you won't believe what your father did today."
"Other than get yourself into trouble with Holly, what?"
