So there I was minding my own freaking business and trying to unwind from a crazy busy day when there was a knock on my door.
"Hey Hol, do you have any plans tonight?"
It was Lily. I love my sister and all, but usually she wants to do something. She's a lot like Mom.
"You're looking at it."
"So you're free?"
What would make her think that I wanna do anything tonight?
"What are you up to, Lilian?" I asked, knowing she already had a plan up her sleeve.
"Um do you want to go to Barnes and Noble with Syd and I?"
That's the last thing I wanna do! Who the hell wants to go to a bookstore at night?! But I decided to go because I could see that Lily really wanted me to come with them. My sister doesn't have a good poker face and is a terrible liar. Sometimes I question if we're even related.
Lily saw herself out of my my room, just to re-enter again. But this time she was trying to tell me what to wear, like she was my older sister. But I decided to go along with it to make Lily happy. I'm not a fan of surprises, but Lily was up to something and I wanted to see what it was.
About twenty minutes later, there was a light knock on the back door. It was Sydney. She had to sneak onto the property because Mom and Dad would ask her and us a million questions about our plans and some odd reason, the girls were in a hurry. So we carefully and quietly ran off of the property and flew into her mom van and somehow Lily had jumped into the passenger seat.
Halfway to the mall where the bookstore was, I noticed that we were in downtown area. So I told them.
"We're almost there, Hol," Syd sighed and acted like I was one of her kids.
I have a need to know everything about everything, so not knowing a thing was pure torture for me. It was honestly the longest five minutes of my life.
"Okay, we're here," Syd announced.
"Where is here?" I asked the duo.
No one gave me an answer, so I decided to follow them inside our favorite bar anyway. As soon as we stepped into one of the back rooms, my eyes doubled in size as I noticed the theme of this event.
"Speed dating?!"
I turned to leave, but Syd stood in my way. She gave me one of her best mom stares as I forgot how to walk for a second. (I wonder why she has that kind of control over me?)
She pointed at Lily. "Go talk to your sister."
I rolled my eyes, sighed and walked back to Lilian Grace.
"Why did you bring me here?!"
"Well it's been a while since you've been on a date and you could really use some excitement in your life."
"Our family is exciting enough for me."
"It'll be fun!"
"Fun isn't the word that I would use to describe this. I would say that it's awkward, embarrassing and a waste of time."
"Why?"
"Well these dates are too short to know anything about these guys and the questions are so shallow."
