May 16 2014-Avenger Tower-Steve's POV

"Why didn't you tell me Hydra was part of S.H.I.E.L.D.?!" I shout at Stark as I throw down a folder of papers

"You think I knew?" he asks back

"Uh-yeah. Two years ago, you ran a security breaker through S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most private files, you told that to all of us." I retort

"Project Insight was a surprise to me, just as it was to you."

"You helped build those, they have Stark tech in them."

"And you have the same serum the Winter Soldier has in him, but here we are." he accuses

"No, you don't get to do that. You don't understand all the horror Hydra has done in the past, you haven't seen it on hundreds of people's faces at once as they find out what has been done." I tell him seriously

"Don't act so innocent."

"How am I acting innocent?!" I ask him

"You're acting as if you're not part of the reason Hydra was able to creep in, in the first place. Crashing that plane didn't take down Hydra, you know that."

"Crashing that plane saved New York and got rid of the founder of Hydra."

"Yet you left the rest of the job up to your wife and kids."

I stay silent

"You let your toddler get taken by the very people you thought were dead."

He made a wrong move on that.

"The day that you have a wife and kid is the day that the world ends, until then you will not be able to understand this kind of pain or fear." I reply

His mouth clamps shut and he lets his head down. I roll my fingers to loosen the fists I unknowingly clenched, still seething from a place that only knows loss.

"What made you crash that plane, Cap?" he asks as he circles around me

"This is not an interrogation." I shake my head as I walk away

"Isn't it? I feel like my cousins would disagree." Tony argues

"Cousins?" I ask

"Your kid, the one you left..wait. Oh yeah, you left an unborn infant too." Tony remarks

"I had to save the city." I insist

"There are other ways to save a city, don't jets have parachutes?" he turns his head in fake curiosity

"Hydra jets don't, everything's do or die. It seemed that we all thought I did both."

"There's always another way." he nods

"Right, right, your life philosophy." I chuckle

"I'm choosing to ignore that."

"When you flew that nuke up into the wormhole a couple years back, I told you it was a one way trip. I knew it was a one way trip because I had done it sixty eight years before you did. It was the same task, it was just done by two different people who have connections through a few people in their past."
