September 15 1946-Brooklyn,NY-Peggy POV

"Ma, look!" Katherine shouts as she runs to me

She waves around a newspaper in her flimsy hands until the paper is set in mine, allowing me to read over the (not so) shocking facts that the country thinks Howard is selling his weapons to Axis Power countries.

"Where's Baby?" I worry as I look around

"She's already adapted to our house, but she's not used to living in a place like this, so she's walking around."

"I brought us here so we could mourn your father and get closer as a family, not to risk my kids accidentally getting themselves or each other hurt." I scold as I go after them

I run into the kids' temporary bedroom to see Sarah showing herself around the room. I walk up and grab her, horrified at what could have happened if she were to find something not kid safe or manage to open a door like she did a few weeks ago.

She's two months old and walking.

What?

"Come to the kitchenette, I've got water brewing for tea." I instruct

Kathy follows along as I carry the heavier baby on my hip, trying to get her to smile until she's beaming like the sun. When I get us into the kitchenette, I fill a mug for Katherine before filling one for myself.

Sarah keeps pretty silent until she sees Howard's picture on the newspapers and makes grabby hands at his face.

"I know Sweet Girl, I think we'll be seeing him soon." I assure to soothe her

"We're gonna see Uncle Howard?" Kathy gasps

"Maybe. It should be any time now that I get pulled into his mess, we shouldn't have to wait too long." I chuckle

"Do you miss him, Ma?"

"Which one?"

"Uncle Howard." she points

"Of course. He's like an..annoying..egotistical, little brother-how could I not miss him?" I go along

"Are you leaving for work soon?"

"Yes, Darling. Barbara will be here in twenty minutes. I want you two to be the best you can be for her, she's much of what we have left now." I nod

"Okay.." Kathy settles

"In our only source of income now, I need to show these boys how a woman does a job."

"Because they don't know how to do theirs." I hear Katherine mumble

"What was that, Sweetheart?" I chuckle

"Because the men at your work don't know how to do their job."

"You've got that right. Now drink your tea before it gets cold." I point out as I begin to stand up

Twenty Minutes Later-Peggy's POV

As I get ready, i'm reminded of all the memories of Steve that were made before the children were ever brought into our life that we had together. I see the bullet marks on my right shoulder and the scars of an old knife laceration on my leg as I pull up my stockings.

Once i'm dressed, I begin cleaning up my room that I share with an acquaintance and begin pressing up all that I can.

"Whoo, don't bother." my friend's voice brings

"Colleen." I notice

"I can't feel my feet." she expresses as she walks towards me

We begin to pull the bed back down, though I do as much heavy lifting as I can due to how ill she seems.
