You sighed tiredly, taking a small sip of your champagne before glancing around idly. You hated weddings. Well, to be fair, you just hated parties in general. You disliked being surrounded by people you didn’t know.

You actually did know a decent amount of people at the wedding, but like Amy and Rory, you had gone to high school with them and hadn’t really kept in touch much after that.

A couple of people had tried to talk to you, men mostly, but your nervousness kicked in and you just retreated to the ladies room until they gave up, and went to find other women to talk to.

You frowned slightly as the man approached you, already fiddling anxiously with your necklace.

“Hello!” The man said cheerfully.

“Hi.” You said quietly, looking at your shoes as the man studied your face.

“Why are you so timid?” He asked curiously.

“Pardon?” You questioned, looking up from your shoes and at the man’s face.

“You’re shy.” He stated simply. “Why is that?”

“I don’t-I don’t know. I’ve never been very good at meeting new people.” You answered, blushing slightly in embarrassment.

“Fascinating how different humans are from each other.” The man commented. “Some are brave, some are shy, some are in the middle.”

“Yes, quite fascinating. Now, if you’ll just excuse me,” You started, attempting to brush past the man to go hide in the women’s restroom again.

“Wait, please.” He said softly. “Been around for over a thousand years and I still only know exactly the wrong things to say to women.” He muttered to himself. You raised an eyebrow at the ‘over a thousand years’ bit, he didn’t look like he was that much older than you, not to mention that that was impos-

“Oh! You’re that doctor fellow that Amy was always talking about.”

“Yes! I’m the Doctor, nice to meet you.” He said politely, tipping his top hat at you.

“I’m __y/n__, nice to meet you too.” You said, smiling slightly as the man beamed at you.

“Would you care to dance?” the Doctor asked after a moment, quirking an almost invisible eyebrow at you. You narrowed your eyes, studying him for a moment before placing your almost empty flute of champagne onto a passing waiter’s tray.

“Sure. What’s the worst thing that could happen?”

---------------------

Apparently, a lot of things.

The Doctor had two left feet, and ended up bumping into practically everyone, which led to everyone keeping their distance from the two of you. Even after you convinced the Doctor to stop dancing, ‘I’ve almost got it though!’, people still tiptoed cautiously around you.

But of course, during your attempt at dancing the Doctor had spun you, and you had bumped into a waiter and made him drop his tray of champagne. The glasses broke and champagne spilled everywhere. You apologized profusely, practically in tears by the time the Doctor dragged you away.

And then, there was the cake incident. The Doctor had been trying to show you what his Sonic Screwdriver did, and it somehow ended up exploding most of Amy and Rory’s wedding cake. Amy and Rory weren’t mad, they thought it was pretty funny actually, but the other guests were not very pleased.

-----------------

“I’m sorry.” the Doctor said, sinking down onto the step beside you.

“Why are you sorry?” You asked, turning your body so you could look at him.

“This evening has been an absolute disaster.”

“It really has.” You agreed. “But you were here too, so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.” You added on, pink filling your __s/c__ cheeks as the Doctor smiled at you.

“You should travel with me.” the Doctor said suddenly.

“I should what?” You asked in disbelief.

“Travel with me. See the stars and the planets; maybe go to America or Australia. We can go anywhere you want, see anyone you want.”

“Based on what happened tonight, I’m fairly certain that if I go with you, we’ll end up ruining an alien wedding, or maybe we’ll end up destroying a star.”

“Well, there are about three hundred billion stars in this galaxy alone, so if we only destroy a couple of stars, I don’t think anyone will notice.” the Doctor said with a shrug, nudging you as you smiled. “Please, give it a chance? If you don’t like being my companion, you can leave.”

You gnawed on your lower lip thoughtfully before you spoke.

“Okay. I’ll give it a chance.”

------------------

“Hey, __y/n__?” the Doctor asked quietly, stepping into your room onboard the TARDIS.

“Hmm?” You asked, flipping over on your bed and turning to face him.

“Thanks for giving me a chance.” the Doctor said softly, kneeling down next to your bed and pressing a light kiss to your lips.

“Y-you’re welcome.” You stuttered out, cheeks flaming red.

The Doctor stood up, straightening his bowtie as he walked out of the room.

“I’ve still got it.” He muttered smugly to himself, kicking his heels together excitedly.
