She was all alone, her feet nearly frozen from lack of shoes and the harshness of the weather. She had slipped so many times on the ice and snow now that it didn't even faze her. Whenever she fell to the wet ground, the young woman would always get up again and keep going. She had to keep going; couldn't turn back. . . otherwise it would mean capture and a most painful end.

Sweet dreams are made of this. . .

It had all started with a misunderstanding that had blown out of proportion; a mistake that she had tried to take back despite how useless it had been. It had been to save someone's life, but even with the good intention in place the ending of the tale had turned out the same. Those deemed different from the rest were scary, different, evil. To be unpredictable was a crime punishable by death, and they had marked (F/n) for the noose.

Who am I to disagree. . .

The girl- just past the cusp of womanhood- had known about her special gifts since she was but a child. She'd always been able to hide it from those around her. Even at the tender age of a toddler (F/n) had known what her magical abilities could bring her, and now she'd ruined it all. She had stopped her mother from burning to death in the town square, and in the process she had seal her own fate. There was no turning back; though she truly had no where to go.

I travel the world and the seven seas. . . Everybody is looking for something. . .

"My, my!" (F/n) turned her gaze sharply at the voice, looking around the dark trees that surrounded her on all sides as she prepared to defend herself. "Were you so anxious to play in the snow that you forgot to dress properly dearie~! It's a chilly night!"

The girl fingers cracked as she fought back the current of magic flowing through her body. "Show yourself! B-Before I set the trees on fire!"

She could hear an amused tsking before the creature revealed itself to her, and her eyes grew wide.

Some of them want to use you. . .

The being wasn't tall of stature, but his bearing made up for it. He walked and moved with grace and confidence, though there was a definite wildness about the creature who now approached her. He wore strange clothes, his skin was scaly and rough, and his eyes- a strange golden-gray color- shone in the darkness like a midnight predator. And surprisingly enough, it was only his eyes that gave (F/n) pause. Though his appearance was alarming, the girl held her ground.

"Who are you? What do you want?"

The creature stopped directly before her, flashed a toothy grin, and dropped into a flamboyant bow. "Those rather fortunate souls who have made my acquaintance call me Rummmmpelstiltskin, my dear~!" Then he added, "And I just wanted a word with you. That is, if you're up to it."
