He looked beautiful. His cold, calculating, gray eyes scanned the controls of the hyper-advanced ship and his long, pale fingers deftly manipulated the navigation. He looked just as you remembered before the tragedy.
"Khan?" you whispered from behind the captain's chair he lounged it. His ramrod straight shoulders slumped and one hand traveled to his forehead. Without turning he spoke,
"Who comes to torment me?" his cool, smooth voice washed over you; it had been much to long since you had heard his silken voice, "Which memory pulls at my heart now? Whose ghost haunts my guilt ridden conscience this time?" Such sad words weighed down the voice you had first fallen in love with.
"I am no ghost; darling, look at me. I am here." You stepped forward to be closer to him,
"I am sad you do not recognize my voice; or has it been too long since you last heard me speak?" He flinched as the words left your mouth.
"How could I ever forget you? I couldn't. Not you. Never you. I thought, at least, that
the dreams of you would stay in my sleep."
"You never could get me out of your head. And you would never stop running around mine," he stayed silent, "Remember when you used to call me up to the bridge for some menial task just so you could see me? I thought you were such an ass at the time."
"Please,"
"Or that time we were put on a mission on that class 7 planet and you were so flustered by our honeymoon cover story you blushed the whole time? We laughed for days!"
"Stop it,"
"Or when you took me dancing on Tartron's 9th moon? That was the first time you ever kissed me. I've missed kissing you. The last time was before the freezing wasn't it?"
"Don't,"
"Whenever we had shore leave the local women would always be drawn to you, and I'd get so jealous. But you'd just pull me close and hold me till I knew there was nothing to fear."
"You can't be real," he could hear you step closer.
"I've missed you so much. Please look at me; hold me. Khan, love, please." Khan felt a warm hand caress his cheek. He stiffened and whirled around in his captain's chair, your name tore from his lips in a desperate plea. It wasn't possible. You could not be there. But he had felt your hand and heard your voice, so could it be? Beyond all logic and hope, could it be?
The space behind his throne was empty. Another shadow of the life Star Fleet had stolen from him had haunted his thoughts. Pain stabbed deep in his chest and he slid out of the chair and onto his hands and knees.
"_-____." He choked out your name once more. Tears filled his eyes. You were still frozen, still a prisoner. He had done everything and still he had not saved even you. Even though you were so close, just a ship away, he had not saved you yet.
