The fire grew high into the sky before anyone had the chance to stop it. It burned, it twisted and destroyed the house that she had been living in for the past eight years. It fought against the winter night. The cold air did nothing to stop the raging flames that tore apart her world.
She hadn't been out long. She had just went to visit a friend that was in need of a spare dish and, when she returned, her house had been engulfed in flames.
Everything that she owned, every memory and silly little item that she collected over the years, was gone. Her laptop, the photographs of her family and friends, a little ornament that she had gotten from a friend almost three years ago was gone. It was all gone.
(Y/N) sat on the sidewalk. The snow numbed her thighs and backside. She stared at the road as firemen and people in her street raced around her. Firemen had questioned her, paramedics had checked her over and neighbors had given their apologies. They asked if there was anyone for her to call but she refused.
What good would calling anyone do? It wouldn't bring her house back. It wouldn't bring back the memories that were being burned to a crisp.
Meowing brought her back from her misery. She looks to her side to find her ginger cat staring up at her with great big eyes. At least she had not lost everything.
"Oh, hey, Waffles," She coos, sniffling. "It's good to see that you at least got out," She feels something damp on the cats leg. She moves it, carefully. Waffles kicks her leg a little. Blood stuck to the ginger fur. "Oh, Waffles."
"Excuse me?" A gruff voice knocks her out of her world. She looks up at the man in the brown trench coat looking down at her.
"Hi, Cas." She whispers. She sniffles once more and brushes away the stray tears.
Castiel sits down beside her on the snow covered concrete. She was shivering. Her nose and cheeks were red. Her eyes matched them. Waffles constantly poked her cheek with her nose. She smiles a little at the action and strokes the ginger cat's back. Castiel shrugs off his coat and sets it over her shoulders, making sure that she's protected against the harsh winter weather.
"Thank you," She sniffs. She tugs the material closer to her. "I don't know what to do, Cas. Ever-Everything I have was in that house and now it's been burned to the ground. A-And Waffles is hurt. I just," She breaks. The tears fall faster now. The sobs break the air. "I don't know what to do, Cas. I can't move house because all my stuff is gone and I can't afford anything else."
Castiel awkwardly wraps his arm around her, pulling her close to him. His heats radiates off of him. She enjoys the warmth that she feels from him. Waffles nuzzles closer to her chest and hides behind the material of Castiel's trench coat.
"I think, I think I know of a place that you could live," Castiel announces, quietly. "Sam and Dean live not that far from here. I do not think they would mind if you relocated there for a while."
"I can't, Castiel," She pulls away a little. "I like Sam and Dean, they're my friends but I can't just show up at their house."
"I'm sure they would not mind, given the circumstances."
She wipes away a tear that treads down her cheek. "Will you be there?"
"No. I have other matters to attend to but I will try my best to see you when I can."
(Y/N) nods her head. "Okay," She rubs her nose. "But, promise that you'll try and stay tonight."
Castiel smiles. "I promise."
