"What did he do?" He says in a panic, lifting me up from the floor. The pain becomes more prominent, as he lets the chair rock forward. My vision is getting blurry by the minute and all I want to do is reach out and touch him to see if he's real.
"What did he do to you, Joclin." He reaches for the knife wedged into my leg, tears in his eye, but doesn't dare to touch it.
"Matty?" I whimper.
"Yeh, it's me."
"Are you real?" The question slips from my lips and he grins.
"Yeh I'm real." He tells me smiling placing his lips on my forehead.
"I love you." He nods and leans down to kiss me so hard that it knocks the breath out of me.
"I fucking love you so much." Without skipping a beat he reaches behind me and starts to untie my arms. I hear Adam in the hallway as Matty moves quickly to untie me.
"I'm gonna get you out of here, okay?" It's hard to talk so I don't. I just let him work around me. Adam swaggers into the doorway, holding a gun in one hand and a bag in the other.
"Matty?" My eyes raising to meet Adam's.
"What?-" he glances up, taking in the lunatic standing in the doorway and his puffy face.
Matty hit him.
The front of him is covered in blood, some of it mine some of it his. His hair is even layered in it and I wonder how much longer I have before I pass out from blood loss.
Matty stands up, holding his hands up to show Adam that he means no harm.
"Adam, put the gun down." He says slowly.
"Move away from her." He looks down at me but all I see is a large blob of misconstrued colors.
I'm dying.
"I can't do that, she's going to die Adam."
"Step away from her right now!" He cocks the gun and aims it at him. "Right fucking now!"
"Adam, don't do this. You're money won't help you now, you let her die, you're going to prison. Now we can all walk away from this or you can and end up behind bars for the rest of your life." Adam swallows his thoughts as he moves closer to us, gesturing for Matty to move away from me.
"Okay, I'm going." Matty backs off as Adam moves closer to me. He lifts the gun up, I see him moving around me in slow parallels but nothing else. I can feel the cold barrel of the gun on my temple and I embrace it.
"Don't hurt him, Matty just go." I say weakly.
"Are you fucking kidding me? Hell no, I am not leaving you."
I drop my head down, but I don't cry.
"I'm dying already, you can leave." I mean it at the moment, I really do. I've already lost a lot of blood. I'm not going to make it and by the look on Matty's face he knows it too. "I don't want anything to happen to you."
"I'm not going anywhere." He says.
"That's all very touching." Adam spits, "but he's not going anywhere just like you aren't going anywhere."
"You make one move with that gun and your neighbors will be all over this place, you know that." Matty's words are becoming muddled. I let my head fall back and my eyes close.
"Jocy!" Matty calls through my sedation. "Adam, let me take her to the hospital- Joclin open your eyes." He demands.
"I can't," I whisper.
