The Entity's realm, years ago
"When's daddy coming back?"
"He'll be back soon, honey. I'm sure he's just finishing up now."
"Can I see the ring again?"
"Sure, my love."
"Wow... I can't believe daddy gave you this!"
Now
I leaned back in the booth lazily with a hand on my stomach.
"God, I'm so full." I groaned.
Danny smiled tiredly at me.
"That's good. We better get going soon."
I fixed my posture and rested my arms on the table. I pushed the plate that had been licked clean away from me and rested my head in my hands, staring off through the window.
"Where will we go?" I asked quietly.
"I dunno. Wherever you'll be safe." The Ghost Face answered.
"Safe..." I whispered, dwelling on the word.
It had been a very long time since I had felt that word.
"What towns are 'round here? You know this place better than I do." He asked.
"Uh... MaryDale's pretty close... so is Abigail Falls." I trailed.
"Alright, either one. I don't care. As long as I can get you away from this." Danny declared. "C'mon, love. Let's go." He stood up and began to walk to the counter, looking at me over his shoulder.
I shakily got to my feet, swiping my body to the side to get out of the booth. My bare feet padded against the checkered tiles as I followed Danny to the counter where he paid. I hid behind him like a child from the waitress behind said counter. I hugged one of his arms and peaked at her from behind him.
"Keep the change." Danny told her importantly.
The killer took me by the hand and guided me to the door. We both sped walked over to where Danny's old car was parked, my dirty bare feet under wet tar. The Ghost Face held the car door open for me.
"Thank you." I rasped out before carefully climbing into the vehicle.
Danny started the car and we rumbled back down the road.
"So," I started nervously. "Love?" I asked, referring to the pet name he gave me.
"What?" Danny sputtered as he tried to focus on driving.
"You called me 'love' back there." I clarified, deadpanned.
"I—well, yeah." The Ghost Face stuttered.
I exhaled in amusement and stared dead ahead.
"It's okay." I reassured.
Danny had called me love in the past but that was different. That was when we were just strangers and he was being polite.
We were driving along the busy downtown streets peacefully for once. Alas, it didn't last very long.
"Ah, shit." Danny cursed while staring at the rearview mirror.
"What? What? What is it?" I fretted.
"Grey." My boyfriend sighed in annoyance.
"What?" I pushed myself up and too looked at the rearview mirror.
"Fuck." We both said in unison.
A black van was creeping up behind us. A mercenary we didn't recognise was in the driver's seat while Derek Grey sat next to him. Derek didn't look too good. His right eye was black and swollen, bruises littering his face. Crusted blood dripped down from his ear, nose and mouth, guzzling down in red trails under his shirt.
"Seriously, how is he still alive?" I exclaimed.
Danny sped up.
"His men keep getting in the way. Don't worry. I'm gonna kill him." He growled.
"I don't know." I sighed.
"What do you mean?" Danny asked.
"I dunno if I want him dead..." I mulled over.
"What? He kidnapped you—left you for two days tied to a chair. I swear to god, I'm gonna fucking kill him." The Ghost Face's knuckles turned white under his gloves from how hard he was gripping the steering wheel.
Derek's van was tailgating us now. Without warning, Danny slammed on the gas pedal. I was immediately whipped back in my seat, being pinned to it with such force.
"Jesus Christ, Danny!" I complained.
"Don't be mad." He whined.
"Don't be mad." I mocked in bewilderment. "Danny, you realise I'm still mad at you for everything else, right?" I folded my arms.
I didn't even flinch when the car zoomed up to ungodly speeds. We were almost out of town now, hooning down a country road.
"You breaking into my house, stalking me, watching me sleep... also then the next moment coming 'round unmasked acting like you didn't do shit. You, Danny Johnson, baffle me." I carried on.
Johnson peeled back his thin lips and opened his mouth to say something.
"I—!"
I cut him off.
"You know, I baffle myself. How could I be so stupid?" I clutched my head in my hands. "After all this time... I can't believe I didn't see it sooner." I monologued, more to myself.
"And I still..." I trailed. "And I still... like you."
Danny looked at me, then the rearview mirror, then the road ahead, then me again.
"Sweetie, I..." he began.
The Entity's realm, years ago
"Are we really doing this?" I kept smiling uncontrollably.
Danny and I had been engaged for nearly a year. We were going to plan a wedding but got so caught up in each other's arms. It sounded cheesy but it was true. We would spend lazy noons tangled in the white sheets together before the Entity called him for trials. We would walk hand in hand together around the realm's greenery, the voice of a little girl could be heard trailing behind us merrily.
Though the Entity would let us out into the real world, an actual wedding still wasn't a good idea. But Danny apparently had been planning this day since he laid eyes on me. Who knew he was such a hopeless romantic?
Alas, the Entity granted us a trip back into the twenty first century. Danny and I found ourselves in Las Vegas that night. He wore a tuxedo and I was dressed nicely like that as well. I snaked my arms limply around his neck and rolled my eyes playfully after he told me some dumb joke.
"I love you." His dark eyes bored into me love sickeningly.
"I love you too." I cooed.
"I really, really love you." Danny repeated desperately.
"I love you so much, darling." I replied automatically.
We stood at a makeshift alter and shared our first kiss as a newly wedded couple. The tiny chapel we resided in was empty and wedding music crackled cheaply through the speakers. I couldn't help but giggle into Danny's mouth as we kissed. He broke away with the goofiest grin on his face.
"I love you, prince(ss)." The unmasked Ghost Face cooed, arms snug around my waist.
"Love you, daddy." I winked jokingly before grabbing his butt.
Danny yelled out in surprise and clutched his butt. I laughed loudly.
"Now c'mon, baby. We're in Vegas! Let's go gamble!" I grinned.
I smacked a kiss onto his cheek and dragged him out of the chapel. Danny and I had our arms draped around each other the whole night. We didn't care what other people thought as we made out right there in public.
We just couldn't wait to come home and tell the good news to our little angel.
