The Day

Angel and I didn't get to go out in the real world for very long, but long enough. I tried to take her everywhere where I would've liked to of gone when I was her age. We went shopping, for lunch and just downtown in general. Before everything happened, this place from where I was from was very different. It had been around eighteen years, so a lot had changed. This new modern take on it should've been unfamiliar and strange but it wasn't. The Entity had put me here with Danny. It somehow made me feel like this was how I always was.

It made me completely forget Danny even existed. Even my own daughter. I couldn't imagine the pain they must've felt over that. I was so sorry.

"I spent a lot of nights alone back in the realm while you two were here. I missed you guys so much when you were away." Angel told me as we walked downtown.

"Aw, sweetie. I love you so much. I'm so glad we're all together again. Nothing like this will ever happen again. I promise." I smiled at her and held onto her hand tightly.

Angel beamed back. She gave my hand a gentle squeeze. That's what I loved about my Angel. She was sixteen years old and held her parent's hand in public like it was nothing. She was so sweet, Danny and I were lucky to have her.

"Thanks, maddy." Said Angel.

After walking about outside for a while, we started to get hot. The sun beamed down on us like the big ball of fire it was. It probably wasn't that hot to other people about but when you were from a realm like us where it was always nighttime, the day had a bit more of a bite to it.

Angel soon found a store she was interested in and we scrambled on inside. We browsed around some big department store together. Angel was looking at the clothes with me watching over her passively (like her father wanted me to). She grabbed something off the rack and showed it to me.

"What do you think of this?" She asked.

Angel held out a pink cropped hoodie proudly.

"Cute!" I answered.

"I love it." My daughter giggled.

"I'll get it for you. Pop it in the basket, babe." I said.

I held out the shopping basket I was holding out for her.

"Thank you, maddy!" Angel squealed.

The teenager placed the hoodie into the basket before skipping off again.

"Hey, Angel! Wait for me." I giggled.

I chased after my daughter with a dumb smile plastered on my face. I focused on her in front of me and speeding up to catch her. I wasn't paying attention to anything else, so you could've imagined my surprise when I bumped into somebody.

"Oof!" I yipped as I collided with some girl. "Oops!" I squeaked. "I'm so sorry—!" I stopped when I noticed who I had ran into.

The woman had long curly ginger hair. She had pretty freckles and green eyes that matched the jacket that she was wearing.

It was Kim.

"I..." I stammered.

"Hey, that's okay. Don't worry about it." Said Kim.

"Thanks." I replied.

Kim looked right through me. A look that you'd often give strangers that you didn't really care for.

She didn't remember me...

A dull ache tugged at my heartstrings. Though I wasn't with her for long, I had grown attached to her. Kim walked around me like us bumping into each other never happened, her heels clicking against the floors was all I could hear.

"Babe? Where are you?" She suddenly called.

"Right here!" I whipped around to spot another girl behind me.

She was a woman of colour with long black dreadlocks and a NO SPIN band tee on.

Rhonda.

She smiled that infectious smile of hers before she trailed behind Kim. Kim smirked and snaked an arm around her girlfriend, giving her lips a small peck. The two girls walked off together, rounding a corner and out of my sight. I never saw them again after that.

"Thank you." I whispered sadly, pondering on what they did for me even though they never actually did it.

I soon found Angel in the makeup section of the store. I approached her solemnly.

"Hey, where were you?" She asked.

"Nowhere important." I said softly.

"You okay, maddy?" Angel asked.

She picked up a tester eyeshadow palette and opened it casually.

"Yes, my love." I smiled. "Everything is fine."

After a nice day out with my daughter, it was time to go home. The fog welcomed us with deep dark whispers. It took Angel first. It gently carried the inspiring killer off back into the realm that she was born and raised in. Unlike me, who belonged here in the real world.

I closed my eyes and let the fog take me, but something felt wrong. It didn't feel welcoming like it normally did. Instead, it felt malicious.

Uh-oh.

The fog still cleared, and a breath of relief left me. I stood in the middle of the woods, our cabin up ahead. I smiled, nothing to worry about.

I wished that was the case. I wished I could go back in time and tell myself to stop, tell myself to run. I had no idea what was lurking behind me when I walked towards my home.

TURN AROUND! BEHIND YOU! LOOK! WATCH OUT!

My brow furrowed when I could finally sense the danger. I stopped walking and glanced behind me. I couldn't see anything but I could definitely feel it. Before I even realised, a huge spidery leg impaled me.

Oh, no...

The sharp leg thrusted right through my stomach like a hot knife. Blood immediately shot out of my mouth and splattered onto the ground. I squealed in pain, trembling. I clutched the Entity's leg with both hands as I shook in its grasp.

You are going to lose. It whispered darkly.

No.

No, no, no! NO!

The Entity's leg was then ripped forcefully from my body. I collapsed to the ground and clutched the gaping hole in my belly.

"No... we won... he beat you... he took me back." I wheezed and choked on my own blood.

It's my world, not yours.

The ground under me began to crack and crumble. I looked down with blurry eyes to see it open up and to swallow me whole. A dark abyss was created for me... a void. I fell through the air, my eyes shutting and body slackening.

This is how you fell.
