Chapter 30

Xander's POV

Meetings. Meetings. Meetings.

I'd spent the entire day listening to pack alphas with requests about their land, rogues, mates, the lot.

Currently, I was sat back in my chair watching the two men in front of me argue back and forth staring at each other from opposite sides of the table. Alpha Jacob and Alpha Michael hadn't shut up for the last ten minutes. I could hardly jump into the conversation so I ended up just sitting here letting them get their frustrations out.

"You let your daughter come frolicking onto my land to seduce my son!" Alpha Jacob hissed at the man.

"How dare you! My daughter was forced!" Alpha Michael replied.

"Gentlemen!" I hollered, having enough.

Their heads snapped my way so fast I thought they'd get whiplash.

"Your children, are they mates?" I asked carefully.

"Mates? Mates! My daughter would never be mated to that bloodline!" Alpha Michael spat out in anger.

"You watch your tone with me Alpha Michael, I may be younger but you will be sorely mistaken if you think I will be more lenient than my father! Now, Rivalry aside, I will ask once more, are your children mates and do not think of disrespecting your king!" I growling out, my authority seeping through.

"Yes." They grumbled out.

"Then you have both wasted my time gentlemen. I will not be granting any such form of restrictions on your land to keep mates apart. You are both aware of the code and keeping mates apart against their will violates this. Learn to get along or I will have to intervene and it will be to strip your titles!" I snapped, causing them to let out huffs but get up and leave all the same.

"You're doing amazing darling." Mother softly spoke from the door.

She had been hidden in her chambers since father passed, leaving responsibility to me but everyday she was coping better and today I guess she felt strong enough to leave her room.

"Thank you mother, how are you feeling?" I asked with a smile.

"Better, I'm going for a stroll in the gardens I think." She replied with a sad smile.

"I'm glad you're feeling better. I'd join you but I have an appointment with Beta William." I explained.

"Not to worry dear." She brushed off before saying her goodbyes and leaving.

The heavy crown a top my head was reminding me of the burden my responsibilities held over me. I wanted nothing more than to be with Aries. I'd been busy all day with absolutely no communication from him.

Glancing down at my phone I saw it was getting late, almost eight pm. Then, my next appointment arrived.

Beta William was there to discuss a rogue problem on their borders. Their alpha was currently sick and he was acting alpha till he was better. Granting some extra armour and some additional training from royal guards, the beta was happy to leave.

Now, I was completing the paper work of today and filling out who I saw and the outcome of their visit.

By the time I was almost finished it was past midnight. I slumped back in my chair deciding to call it a night and headed to my bedroom. The first thing I did was take the crown off my head, my neck happy with the relief. I frowned at my now flat hair in the mirror but decided to ignore it and put on grey joggers and a black shirt.

Satisfied, I then heard a rapid knock on my door so I went over and opened it to have a guard appear before me.

"Sir, I have been appointed to tell you Miss Bella is in the hospital. The man on the phone did not provide further details." The guard heaved out.

What?

Quickly turning round, I slipped a pair of vans on at the bottom of my bed and grabbed my phone.

"Sir, you can't drive you've been working all day, you're exhausted." The guard chimed in.

"I will be fine." "I muttered as I walked past him.

I dashed to the cloakroom and grabbed my leather jacket before heading to the garage and taking the first car I saw, a black jeep.

The engine roared to life and I headed to the hospital, speeding every second of the way.

Aries, is Bella okay?

I tried mind linking Aries several times but he never replied.

I felt horrible with how far away I was. Despite my speeding, I didn't reach the hospital till early hours in the morning. I hastily parked the moment I arrived and ran in causing shock to radiate through the hospital.

"My king!" A nurse exclaimed as I scanned the hospital surroundings.

In the waiting room, I saw Ricky sitting there, head in his hands. Disregarding the nurse, I headed over to him and crouched in front of him, tapping his knee lightly to catch his attention.

"Ricky, what's happened?" I asked.

"She-She just, collapsed Xavier! She wouldn't wake up and I couldn't hear a heart beat." He cried, letting my name from before slip. I didn't care though.

"Okay. Okay. Has a doctor spoke to you about her condition yet?" I asked him to which he shook his head.

I nodded and thought for a moment.

"Okay Ricky, I'm going to go speak to a few people and find out what is going on." I told him before leaving.

Approaching the same nurse as before, I questioned her on Bella but she wouldn't tell me anything. She did however get a doctor on the phone who was coming down right now.

Where is Aries?

"Your majesty, it's my honour! My name is Dr Richards, I'm Bella's doctor." He introduced himself with a hand shake.

"Nice to meet you. How is she?" I asked as Ricky came over at the sight of the doctor.

"She's stable but comatose. We have absolutely no clue what is wrong with her, she won't wake up and she won't breathe on her own but she's healthy. Black magic could be..."

His words faded out as he said black magic. She wasn't sick, she had been targeted.

Everything fell into slow motion around me. The beds being wheeled in, the nurses, even the air. I slowly turned to Ricky as I heard the doctor asking if I was ok. He stared at me, anger flowing through his red eyes.

I caused this.

Whoever had kidnapped me was hurting the ones I loved and it was all my fault.
