Chapter 18:

Xander POV

"Xander? What are you doing here?" My mother gushed as I passed her angrily.

I'd spent all night getting home since I couldn't alert anyone I was leaving. If I had, I'd immediately been put on watch and told I couldn't leave. I didn't have time for stupid games if my pack was in danger.

"Xander, I asked you a question." My mother called from behind, now following.

"I think my mate is in danger." Was all I replied, finally reaching my room and grabbing a new bag to pack.

Mother let out a sharp intake of breath behind me causing me to pause and turn around.

"You've met your mate?" She asked warily.

"Yes." Was all I said before ransacking drawers for everything I needed.

"Xander, baby, I need you to sit down a moment and explain." Mother replied as she touched my shoulder.

Freezing instantly, I waited till she let go and turned around.

"My mate is Alpha of the largest pack, he rejected me. I thought our bond was dead when I died. Something is wrong because he went out of his way to open our link back up to ask for help. So I'm going." I stated bluntly, zipping my bag as I went.

"Aries Dubois? From that party? If he rejected you, why are you running at his every call?" Mother quizzed.

"I don't know! I don't know. All I know is I cannot ignore it, whether he wants to be with me or not I have to be there for him." I shoved past her, not entertaining the argument any longer.

"Ok." Mum said, causing me to pause in my tracks. "Take one of the royal cars, any one. The keys are hung in the garage, just be careful."

"I will." I replied, leaving her standing in my room.

Sprinting down the stairs and along the corridor, I swung open the garage door and entered. Seven cars lay there, all as expensive as the next. I decided on the matte black Lamborghini. It wouldn't be obvious in the trees compared to the yellow Ferrari and its fast.

Grabbing the keys hung by the door, I opened the car door and flung my bag in the passenger seat. With a hesitant sigh, I turned on the engine and reeved the vehicle. The sound of the car instructed the maid to open the door, allowing me to exit.

My hands clenched around the steering wheel in anticipation as I took off, hoping to reach the pack by nightfall. It would be a long drive and an anxiety ridden one at that. Breathing heavily, my eyes darted around the forest surrounding me, taking in my surroundings.

"it'll be okay." I mumbled out.

Nightfall quickly came and just as I felt like I could doze off, the borders of the pack rapidly came into sight.

Sitting up more in my seat, I stopped at the borders for guards to assess me. As soon as they saw my face, they bowed and allowed me to proceed.

Moving forward, I stared around me at the familiar grounds. It was daunting to say the least. Following the road, the main pack house came into view, figures waiting outside already.

As I pulled the black sports car to a stop, I glanced through the tinted window to see everyone staring at the car in awe. Aries was there along with Ricky, Dante and their mates, including Bella.

"Show time." I asked, leaving my back in the car and exiting the car.

A shiver immediately went up my spine at the sight of Aries, much to my dismay but his nervous shuffling told me all I needed to know about him. He was more anxious than me. Trying to ignore his pressing stare, I slammed the car door and walked around the vehicle, leaning on passenger side.

"So, why was I asked to come here?" I addressed Aries, trying to stay neutral.

"I'd prefer we spoke in my office." He replied, ignoring everyones confused stares, par Ricky.

I nodded sharply, following him through the group. I'd have to go see Dante and Bella before I left but that was something for later.

Aries, walked along the hall with power radiating off him and it wasn't long before we reached the office at the end of the hall. He allowed me to enter first, shutting the door behind me and locking it.

"It really is you then?" Aries asked, amazed as he walked over.

"What do you mean?" I replied, playing dumb.

"Xavier, you're not fooling anyone." He firmly explained, leaving no room for argument.

Sighing, slouching back in my chair much to my trainings dismay, I looked up at him in annoyance, "You got me, red handed in all. Now why did you open the mate link?"

"There's been rogue attacks in the area, the pack is weak. I'm weak without you. We need you." Aries muttered, suddenly vulnerable.

"You need me? That's rich. I died fighting to be your mate, Aries. I didn't even hesitate when I was asked to reject you and you? You did it without blinking. You don't get to demand my help now I'm suddenly of value to you." I hissed at him, standing.

"I know, and I promise you Xavier, I'll make it up to you, everything, I promise. You don't know how sorry I am! It broke my heart, it still does. Not just because you're a prince now, because god I love you! I was scared, it's a pathetic excuse I know but let me make it up to you. Please. And if you don't stay for me, stay for your family, for Bella, for Dante. Just help me fix what i've done wrong." He near enough sobbed as he grabbed my hand.

"Its Xander." I barked, ripping my hand away. I was done with his sobbing and sulking. He was not the victim here. As I approached his office door with every intention to leave, I sighed with my hand on the door knob. "I'll need a room."

I knew the pain of your mate rejecting you, leaving you. I would not stoop that low. Not at the expense of my family's safety.

"Really?" Aries quizzed, stunned.

"Well come on, before I change my mind." I replied, anger still lacing my voice.

"Yeah, yeah of course, I show you to your room." He rushed out, grabbing something from his desk and opening the door for me, allowing me to follow him to my new room.

I just hope I won't regret this.
