Chapter 36
Its a birthday update from the author!
Something big is going to be happening soon...
Xanders POV
Nerves riddled my body as I stared at the familiar house in front of me. I had paused for a moment, biting my lip before stepping forward and knocking the door. I'd had a five minute internal debate on whether I should be knocking the door or walking in but I decided on the safest option.
"Honey? Did you not hear the door? Seriously, left to do everything in this house." My mother sassed, finally opening the door and freezing.
"Hi." I breathed out, suddenly uncomfortable.
"Oh! oh! My baby!" She cried out, dropping the hand towel she was holding and embracing me in a hug.
She held on for dear life, not wanting to let go for a moment until another voice rang through the house.
"Who is it?" My father asked, emerging into the hallway.
"Hi dad." I said to him, my head still resting on mothers shoulder.
"Xavier... my boy." He uttered, before coming to join the hug.
"Um, its actually Xander now." I replied, with a smile.
"Of course Xander."
After another few moments, they ushered me inside, leading me to the familiar living room with grey sofas and familiar brown laminate flooring.
"Do you need anything dear?" Mother asked me, trying to make herself busy.
"No, no. It's not a long visit just felt it was long overdue." I told her, smiling.
"Of course. When Dante told us...gosh we were floored. Speaking of, he's just out but won't be long." Mother replied.
"So...King huh?" Dad jumped in, analysing my new appearance.
"Seems to be yeah." I breathily laughed.
"What a responsibility. It doesn't feel too long ago where you couldn't even keep your room clean never mind living in a castle and running a kingdom." He joked back.
"Yeah its been a whirlwind to say the least."
"Of course."
Silence filled the room as both of my parents took in my new appearance, guilt suddenly enveloping their features.
"Xander, honey. You know you're always our son no matter what and keeping this from you wasn't to be malicious." Mother began, conveying her thoughts. "Just, when we saw how fragile you were in the woods, how near death you were, we vowed to never let anyone treat you like that again. I-i thought your birth mother done that to you, I didn't want her to have the opportunity to again, I'm so sorry!"
"It's in the past, I understand." I explained, trying to let her know she didn't need to be upset.
"Thank you," she whispered, stray tears escaping her eyes.
"Oh my ever so loving parents, I'm home!" Dante hollered as the front door opened.
The sound of him rubbing the soles of his shoes on the door mat was heard followed by the door closing and steps in our direction. He then entered the living room, jacket still on as his eyes landed on me.
"Oh wow, it's weird seeing you in the house." Dante laughed, leaning down and giving me a hug.
"Shut up." I laughed, watching him take his jacket off and sit down next to me.
"What a happy family reunion." Dante joked, allowing everyone to ease back into a nice atmosphere.
"So, Xander." Dad began, "Catch us up. We've heard bits and pieces from this one but we think it's best to hear the story from you."
"Well..." I laughed lightly before beginning right from the start. The ceremony.
The next hour I spent, trying to summarise everything that had occurred throughout the last while, their faces contorting every time they reacted to a new piece of information.
"So, yeah. Now, I'm here. I'm working out my next steps, making sure Aries, Dante, Bella and everyone are all okay. Just sorting things out." I finished.
"Oh wow, and you and Aries are all good?" Mother asked.
"I hope so." I laughed.
"Good, baby, good. I'm so happy for you. I always knew you'd go onto doing great things. I have to ask though, what about this Molly person? She's just gone?" Mother questioned.
"I've not heard anything and no one else has." I told her honestly to which she nodded, still thinking.
"we're proud of you son." My dad finally said once the conversation had ended.
"Thank you, I really appreciate it." I smiled.
"Anyways, Xander and I should probably go meet back up with Aries. He let me know when I was heading over that in a while he wanted a meeting with us and Ricky to discuss the future of the pack." Dante hopped in, jumping to his feet.
"Sounds like him. I'm glad to have seen you both again." I stated honestly to my parents who nodded and got up, squeezing me into a hug again.
"Don't be a stranger, we're your parents for goodness sake." Mother chuckled.
"Always." I replied before heading out with Dante, calling out a goodbye.
"So mr king, When you headed back." Dante asked, wrapping his arm over my shoulder and pulling me into a side hug.
"I'm not sure. It'll need to be soon."
"Poor heartbroken Aries." He laughed, letting go of the side hug.
I only nodded as we approached the house, entering and heading to the office where Aries and Ricky already where.
"Took your time guys." Aries huffed, not looking up.
"Someone is cranky." I whistled lowly, shutting the door.
"Little bit." He mumbled glancing up with sorry eyes.
"All good. Anyways what's to be discussed." I asked, getting seated and comfortable.
"The pack lines and patrol. Usual." Aries sighed, looking at the territory maps.
For the next while, the three of them were discussing the matters of borders, glancing at me every now and again for approval as king. They were lucky I was here, there were packs waiting months to discuss the same issues.
"No." I huffed out for the tenth time.
"Come on, the north border has been losing land since my great grand father was alpha. That land is rightfully ours." Aries whined.
"I can't approve you declaring the land back. It's rogue territory. I need to keep them happy too before there's a slaughter of packs because we are eating into their territory. Place extra guards up the north section. It's neglected leaving it vulnerable for the land to be lost. Keep what you have." I ranted.
"Ugh, you're annoying. I thought I'd get mate privileges." Aries sighed.
"And your mate is still a king." I replied.
"Whatever." He groaned, a small smile my way showing he was only joking.
"Come on, I'm bored and hungry let's finish this up. This agenda is a no, lets not argue on it anymore and move onto the next one." I exclaimed, grabbing the next papers.
"Gosh, who's cranky now." Dante smirked.
"I'll put you on your ass and not feel sorry about it." I scoffed at Dante.
"Shut up." He replied, quoting me from earlier.
I missed this.
