Chapter 21:

Xanders POV

It had been a week since I gave Aries a chance to prove himself. He'd been making small differences such as making my favourite food and making time to watch movies at night with me.

I'd grown used to our quirky routine as if there were never any issues between us. During the day I was training up the pack warriors in defence techniques to provide a barrier around the pack while Aries took on his role as alpha once again.

Currently, I was at the clearing where my old crypt stood, the rubble still surrounding the area. Aries hadn't gotten it moved yet for the sake of my family and Bella. They weren't aware I was Xavier, therefore, the idea of dismantling all they had left of my previous life seemed impossible right now.

Ricky and I's conversation played over in my head as I sat in the rubble, anxiety itching up my neck. I still wasn't sure what to do but all I knew was I'd need to make my choice soon. I couldn't string Aries along with hope and I also couldn't hurt myself either. I knew I had duties and no matter what I wanted I had to honour those.

At this, I felt my wolf grow sad although it was obvious he still understood why it was difficult to be with our mate.

I groaned aloud as I sat back on the piece of stone looking at the sky. It was peaceful, calm until the chaos ensued.

Heavy pounding of wolves paws sounding through the tree line caused me to perk up. It was an attack. I jumped up, ready to go warn everyone when Aries more or less skidded into the clearing looking horrified.

I knew with every death a rogue attack brought he held the burden on himself. It was up to me as his mate to make sure that didn't happen this time.

"It's time." I said to him as he nodded, both of us sprinting back to the main area where the pack house was.

There, warriors were preparing as they ripped into wolf form. Behind them at the pack house were lots of mothers and children hurrying into the house so they could head to the basement. I marched over to the pack warriors, standing in front of them.

Aries, Ricky and Dante chose to stay in their human form with me as we stood in front of the rows of six to seven foot wolves.

Just as predicted, the rogues began emerging from the trees by the dozen, snarling. I stepped forward catching every single rogues eye making them freeze.

"I, Prince Xander, order you all to retreat before we have a blood bath on our hands!" I hollered, venom lacing my voice.

A rogue stepped forward. It was brown with tinges of red and then suddenly he transformed into human form, smirking as he stared me down.

"We don't answer to the royals...mutt." He ripped out in his raspy voice.

"So be it." I replied to him with a smirk myself.

Ripping my clothes, I transformed into my pure white royal wolf which towered over every single rogue around us. Aries, Ricky and Dante followed suit, all transforming too. I saw some of the rogues stagger back, my power rolling off in waves around me.

In one swift motion, my wolf snapped the rogue leaders head which led to the very bloodbath I was trying to avoid.

The well trained pack warriors were all handling their own allowing me to focus on the rogues trying to attack me from behind. Thankfully, the only blood shed amongst the snarling were the rogues until I saw three wolves go for Dante all at once.
