Chapter 13:
Xander's POV
Bella stared at me in confusion, as if she was certain she knew who I was. It made me nervous. I wasn't quite prepared for her to know yet.
"I'm not sure," I told her with a nervous chuckle.
"You're probably right, I've not been sleeping much recently, I'm probably going crazy. But not crazy crazy haha. I'm not insane. You know what I mean right? Only I would tell the prince I was crazy," Bella rambled on completely easing all anxiety I had and earning a small laugh from me.
"I know what you mean," I told her with a smile.
She smiled back just as bright before focusing on her footwork. I had missed Bella so much. It killed me to think she had been in pain over the last few months. I'm glad Ricky has been looking after her like I asked.
As the song slowed to an end, Bella stepped back to bow and leave the dance floor to find Ricky. At the last second however, I grabbed her hand lightly causing her to turn back around in confusion.
"Uh, do you mind if I show you something?" I asked her politely, trying to not sound creepy.
"I guess not," She replied hesitantly.
With a full blown smile, I took her hand and led her through the dance floor to a door which was blocked off by a security guard. I waved for him to let us through to which he obliged before going back to guarding the door once again.
We were left in a long hallway, adorned with paintings of the royal family above small tables which held vases of flowers.
"Do you mind if I ask where we are going?" Bella wondered, staring around the hall.
"I knew someone, and he suggested I do this for you," I replied cryptically as I began leading her through the hall away to the room at the end.
Once we reached the door, I opened it hesitantly to make sure no one was in the room. I'd be killed if I was caught leaving the ball. Thankfully, it was empty so I continued to swing open the door and switch the lights on.
"This, Bella, is the royal kitchen. I was told you'd always wished to cook in here and I know you arrived for a ball but I was wondering if you'd do the honours of cooking for me?" I asked hopefully.
Bella all but squealed in delight as she left my side to begin exploring the large kitchen. She was in awe with the expensive equipment scattered around the kitchen until she stopped and glanced up at me.
"I only ever told one person my dream of cooking in the royal kitchen...and he's gone. How did you know because I'm sure if Xavier was friends with the future king he would have told me," Bella quizzed, suddenly hesitant.
"It's difficult to explain, something for another day. Why don't we just take this time tonight to let you explore and cook. That way when you're done you can head back to your mate and still enjoy the ball. I also don't want him thinking I've kidnapped you," I said with a grin her way.
"Very true, Ricky is protective. But, you're right. We should make use of the time we have," Bella replied as she picked up a chef coat and put it on over her dress to protect it.
"so, miss Bella, What shall you be making?" I asked, taking a seat at the breakfast bar across from the kitchen counter.
"Well, I haven't been able to bring myself to make my famous cake after Xavier passed, it was just too painful. However, considering he made this happen and the fact I'm in the royal kitchen, I think I'll make that," She smiled.
"That sounds like a plan. Feel free to look around for anything you need. Everything you should need will be here somewhere," I let her know as I watched her get to work.
Over the course of the next half hour, Bella and I giggled and laughed about a number of things whilst she baked away. It felt like a missing piece to the puzzle. I finally felt like I was at home.
Just as Bella finished putting the batter in the tin for the oven, we both heard a loud ruckus causing us both to stand up and stare at the door.
"Where is my mate!" a voice bellowed as the door swung open revealing Ricky.
Oh here we go.
Shortly followed after Ricky was Aries and Molly. I rolled my eyes at this and looked away.
"Answer me! What are you doing with my mate!" Ricky yelled.
"He just letting me cook in the royal kitchen, it was my dream," Bella answered for me.
With a smirk I placed my arms on the breakfast bar, looking at the situation in front of me.
"How did he know that?" Ricky asked, more confused now.
"Xavier..." Bella mumbled, peeking everyones interest.
After the name Xavier was said, everyone stared at me in confusion and interest. The deafening silence filled the room until I heard it. Over everyone else's hammering heartbeats was a small faint heartbeat. I glanced up immediately at Molly and saw a glimpse of her stomach through Aries and Ricky.
Bastard.
Looking up at the ceiling, I let in a large breath, trying to not lose it.
"How did you know Xavier?" Aries asked.
"How did you?" I replied, smirking as the shivers from my voice ran through him.
I still had an effect on him.
"who cares, lets just go back to the party," Molly muttered.
My eyes snapped to her, staring right through her causing her to cower backwards behind Aries.
"Your little mate is pregnant. Where is the mark?" I asked Aries as I stared at Molly's bare neck.
True mates find it impossible to not mark each other within the first week.
"We are waiting till after the luna ceremony now answer me, how did you know Xavier," Aries replied.
My anger was overbearing at the lies he was spouting. He would dare think about marking someone who is not his mate? Let alone get them pregnant?
Let me take over.
Can I trust you not to do anything stupid?
Always.
Then, as I stared at the ground in anger, it suddenly melted away as my wolf took over. A smile grew onto my face as I looked back up, earning small gasps at what I assumed was because my royal wolf blue eyes were showing.
"Aries," My wolf tutted. "Why do you care about Xavier so much?"
"He was in my pack," Aries replied hesitantly.
"You never bothered then. He was a liar in your eyes, no? So I ask again, what is the real reason Aries Dubois," My wolf continued.
"I've already told you," Aries said, faking confidence.
"I know about the woods. What happened? Do they know?" My wolf asked with a smirk, head tipping to the side.
"What? I-"
"You killed him. Didn't you," My wolf antagonised as he watched Aries panic.
"No. No! I didn't," Aries yelled.
"You let your mate die because you didn't want him."
And as those words left my mouth, Chaos ensued.
