Chapter 40

Xanders POV

The moment Aries opened the door my knuckles cracked across his jaw causing him to fall back and land on the floor with a groan.

"Say it to my face then!" I yelled, getting on top of him and punching him on the nose, hearing a satisfying sickening crack.

"Xander, fuck!" Aries groaned out.

"Come on then tough guy. Do what you do best. Reject me, come on. You can't pick me over an illegitimate child?" I spat out, grabbing his collar and making him look me in the eye.

"Should we stop him?" Ricky asked nervously from behind me.

"No." Zac and Bella instantly replied before Zac let out a whoop and a "You go girl!"

"Xander, you know I don't want to reject you." Aries replied hurt.

"You're a joke Aries Dubois!" I scoffed, crawling off him.

"Aries, who was at the- oh my god!" Molly gasped, seeing Aries on the ground with a nice broken nose dribbling blood out.

"Oh if it isn't the she-witch herself!" I cackled.

"How dare you!" She replied angrily.

"How dare I? How dare you! Bringing that child here. Did you really forget I'm the king and can tell in a second who that child belongs to." I replied, my authority overpowering her.

You can't do this, Xander. I'll handle this.

Nodding, I let my wolf take over, my anger melting away and being replaced with a wolfish smirk and glowing eyes.

"Ahhh, can't say I've missed this." My wolf sighed, looking at Molly and then to Aries.

"I-" Molly stuttered, panicked.

"Silly, Silly girl. I can smell the child from here. There is no trace of my mate in that girl." my wolf laughed, turning to Aries. "And for you. How...sad of you. It's clear you aren't a fit mate. You never will be."

"Xander you have to be wrong, she's so like me it's impossible for her not to be." Aries pleaded, scrambling to his feet.

Rolling my eyes, my wolf and I pushed passed Molly, heading towards the foreign scent.

"Stay away from my baby!" Molly cried, following me.

Heading into the room where the crying baby lay, I looked at her, really looked at her and Aries was right. She was his double. Yet, it still wasn't his child. Any trace of him, any genetics she would have shared with him would be in her scent, which it's not.

She was 100% not his child.

Frowning, I turned to the door where Molly, Aries and the rest of the guys stood in anticipation.

"She's not yours Aries. I see your point but she really isn't." My wolf began, watching his face fall at the realisation.

"And neither am I." I finished, taking back over from my wolf.

Heading for the door, I left the room, making my way down the familiar stairs and away from Aries.

"No, no wait Xander!" Aries called, running in front of me and blocking the front door.

"What?" I asked him.

"You can't, please. Please understand where I'm coming from! Don't leave me over my kid." Aries begged.

"I'm not." I told him, watching his face melt into relief.

"I'm leaving you because you picked a kid, not your kid, a kid, over your mate." I stated before moving him out the way and leaving.

I didn't bother saying goodbye, too determined in leaving before I regretted my decisions and turned back to Aries.

I just got in my car, started the engine and left. I didn't look back once, too focused on my tight grip on the steering wheel. I would not cry over him, or wait for him to come running back. I did what I could for him, and he repaid me like this.

By the time I'd gotten home, I couldn't feel my hands. I didn't care though, only turning the engine off and heading in, straight to my fathers liquor cabinet. Grabbing a fancy looking glass, I poured the aged whiskey in and downed it in once, pouring another which I'd nurse a little better.

"Heart break is a horrible thing huh?" Ray said, leaning against the door of the room.

"Mhm." I stated, sitting at my fathers desk.

"You look like him, sitting there you know. You are certainly your fathers double." Ray told me, closing the door behind him.

"I am his son." I shrugged, knocking back some of the whiskey.

"You can do this you know. You don't need a mate to survive." Ray spoke, grabbing himself a whiskey.

"Well, doesn't mean it hurts any less." I grumbled, staring down at the half filled glass.

"What happened?" Ray asked me.

So I told him. Start to finish. The party, who Molly was, the child, Aries picking...everything.

"That stupid boy." He finally stated. "You need another drink."

With that, he poured another whiskey into my glass which a gratefully took enjoying the slight buzz.

"He will realise what he lost. Then, he will come crawling back."

"I don't want him to." I said honestly. "I may miss him already like hell but I'm fed up feeling like this. I'm done. He can crawl back over and over but I won't be forgiving this time. I have a kingdom to run, I will not be involved in petty high school drama."

"That's your choice kid but just know, everything happens for a reason." Ray replied with a sad smile.

"I guess so."

I guess so.

The next few days I threw myself into work. Aries didn't call, or text or show up. He was a ghost that I couldn't care less for. I would text Bella but other than that, my contact with the pact was non-existent.

I liked it like that.

It made it hurt less.

Eventually, I became known as the tilted king. The one who wasn't perfect with no mate at his side. Everyone began fearing me and my icy personality knowing that without a mate to ground my emotions, I was a walking time bomb.

It hurt, seeing the shell of the person I had become. Before all of this I was so innocent and ready to take on the world.

Now?

I wished I'd stayed dead after he rejected me.

I was the tilted king.

And it was all his fault.
