23. Daffodils

After an hour, Jay is standing on Bella's front door.

He wore a royal blue t-shirt and holds a contrast of fresh bunch of yellow flowers that he picked on the way and that made him delay for almost half an hour.

He had to ask the vendor which flowers would be perfect to lift up someone's mood and he skims through roses and lilies but the bright yellow daffodils catch his eyes.

A wave of nostalgia surfs through his mind and he settles on buying daffodils.

He calls Bella to come down, while he idly arranges the flowers while waiting for Bella. A huge grin adores his face as he thinks of surprising her with the flowers.

Bella on the other hand forgot about their little meet, she was so busy thinking how to talk to Jake, or what she should do in this situation. But first she needs the past, to be able to work on the future.

After attending the call, she strides down the stairs hurriedly and opens the door to find Jay holding daffodils on his face and he tilts the bunch and gives her a charming smile.

Bella yelps in astonishment at the sight of yellow flowers, he extends his hand forward to pass it to her. "These are for me?" she asks, widening her hazel eyes.

Jay passes a cute chuckle and nods his head. "Thank you, Jay, these are so beautiful!" She takes them and touches the soft petal feeling jittery.

That makes Jay smile so hard that his cheeks burn into a light shade of red.

"I am glad you liked them," Jay says while scratching the back of his head.

"Come in," Bella welcomes him and shows him inside. Jay carefully places his sneakers on the entry way. She leads him inside and they take awkward glances and bob head simultaneously.

Bella is about to place the daffodils on the side table but she hears a knock on the door, she excuses herself from Jay and strides towards the door, holding the bunch still in her hands.

The door opens to reveal the next-door neighbour, Jake. He furrows his brows at the daffodils and Bella quickly takes them out of his sight.

He ignores it and enters without giving a chance for Bella to speak, she didn't expect him to be here, not after whatever happened today and him seeing Jay is going to make the situation worst.

She shields the entrance and stands in front of him, "Why are you here?"

Jake sceptically scans her from up till down and voices, "I can come here anytime I want. Mom told me to give Aunt Clara a message. Get away from my way."

He tries to take another step inside but Bella steps right in the middle of his way.

"You know Mom isn't home at this hour, tell me about it, I will pass it to mom when she comes home." She fretfully speaks, without moving from her position.

"You are acting strange! Why aren't you letting me in?" Jake squints his eyes, trying to look through her soul.

Bella tensely chuckles, "What are you talking about!"

At the same time Jay enters the scene and casually asks, "Who is at the door?" he freezes on his place after seeing Jake. And Bella wishes to disappear from the surface of this earth.

"What is he doing here!" Jake yells and then looks at the daffodils and puts two and two together.

That startles Bella and pursues her lips as she tries to think of an explanation.

Jake gives out a scoff and starts laughing, "I am such an idiot. Of course, he would be here, you two are dating right?" he puts an accusing finger at the two. His body shaking from the impact.

This pierces Bella's heart, she didn't expect Jake to take out this conclusion.

She couldn't even find correct words to explain.

"Yes, I am her boyfriend, what are you going to do about that?"

And boom!!! Sorry for the late update, I wasn't feeling well.

Daffodils also symbolize new beginnings!! ;) thought I should drop that hint!
