32. Shocks

That day Jake was acting very strange, usually Jake would grit his teeth in anger or just shove disgusting looks at the sight of Jay's gang. But that day, he was rather composed and a mischievous smirk lingered on his face.

"David, can I talk to you for a sec?" Jake asked the 'leader' of Jay's gang with confidence radiating on his face.

The kind of confidence which was purposeful, for gaining something vicious.

In reply, David laughed on his face, "And why do you think I would listen to you?" the other gang members except Jay joined him in this little session of laughter as they surrounded Jake.

But even after this Jake did not budge from his position, he stayed stiff in his position and muttered, "You will have to listen to me, I have an offer, you cannot deny."

The boys were taken aback by this sudden comeback and boldness, naturally they would start beating Jake up by now but David put up a reassuring hand around the other members.

"Really? Now what is it, I am curious as hell."

The mark hit the bull's eye- David was indeed piqued by the sudden raise of attitude in Jake. It was rather impressive to see the one you bullied swiftly showing his colors.

"Not here, I want to talk to you personally," Jake mouthed stressing a bit at the end and threw a nasty look in Jay's direction.

Jay was stunned, he just couldn't contemplate on what he was supposed to do in this situation.

He was about to confront Jake but it was too late. David already took him to the corner to 'discuss' on whatever that was going on.

He thought that he might ask about it to Sunghoon, since Jake would've already told him about it. And if it was any plan of theirs to bring David down, he would fully support them.

Jay had made up his mind, on which side to choose and certainly it was the right one that time.

After a span of almost a week, Jay wasn't able to contact Sunghoon because he didn't see him in the park, which was strange.

But he decided not to give it much thought since Sunghoon's matches were around the corner, and he assumed that Sunghoon might just be practising.

With that assumption in mind, Jay went to the sports academy to search for Sunghoon. When he was passed the basketball court, he saw his gang members targeting a boy.

That was weird for Jay because he was not called to hang out with them this time, it was also a big relief for Jay. They didn't need him anymore, now he could promptly ignore them or possibly leave the gang.

It was also strange because on that certain weekday the outdoor courts were closed. He shakes his head and tried to go inside to find Sunghoon but couldn't tear apart his gaze from the scene.

A certain someone caught his eye; it was Jake standing right in front of the poor boy who was getting bullied.

Unable to control the urge, he strode forward in the direction to make out what was exactly happening.

He halted right in his tracks when he realised that the boy who was sitting down crunching his limbs to his chest was Sunghoon.

"You think I would care about you if you act pity in front of me?" Jake scornfully questioned Sunghoon.

"Jake why are you doing this?" Sunghoon mumbled between his sobs.

"Why else would I be doing this? I am tired of you Sunghoon. I cannot pretend to be someone I am not." Jake retorted as he squatted near Sunghoon. He closed the proximity between them and held Sunghoon's chin upwards.

This was breaking Sunghoon from inside out, seeing his best friend turning into something he never expected before. But something in Sunghoon told him that it was more than what meet one's eye. Jake was hiding something.

"I know you don't mean it Jake." His weak voice steadied a bit when he gazed into Jake's eyes.

Jake harshly jerked Sunghoon's chin away, and spitefully broke the eye contact.

He sneered, "You don't know me, I fucking mean it. You are weak, pitiable boy who I have nothing to do with from now on."

David proudly smirked in satisfaction at Jake's remark.

"Jake please don't do this, tell me what should I do. What did I do wrong?" Sunghoon quickly placed a hand around Jake and looked at him with glistening eyes.

"Stop begging me you idiot! And don't fucking touch me!" Jake spat at him and then dragged Sunghoon's hand down.

That pierced an arrow right through Sunghoon's heart. He had never heard Jake swear in his entire 2 years of knowing him.

"We can work on it. Jake, don't break our friendship. Please talk to me!" Sunghoon literally kneeled down on the ground and intertwined his fingers, pleading him to stop this from happening.

Jake just turned his back around, trying to cover up his emotions.

"He's talking too much, get the skates from him!" David barked and ordered his gang members around.

Despite that Jake did not move from his position or didn't do anything to stop him.

"No! please don't take my skates, I have trials in three days. This is a big opportunity for me, these are my favourite ones. Jake! Please!" Tears of pain raced down Sunghoon's cheeks as he tried to stop them from taking his skates away.

He was holding it tight in his arms as the other boys tried to take it out of his hands. But Jake did not turn around nor did he say anything.

Sunghoon was glancing continuously at Jake, hoping for him to turn around, shaking his body to not let them take it.

One of the boys snatched one skate out of Sunghoon's hand and the other boy took the another one. Sunghoon hopelessly watched his favourite pair being taken away from him, the design on those skates made him tear apart.

It was painted by Bella and Jake to wish him luck, wings were painted to show that he could fly high. But they were broken now, everything was.

He crunched down on the ground- complete hopelessness converted into tears that rain down his face at lightning speed.

In the midst a loud voice interrupted their attention, "What the hell are you doing?"
