27. Yearnings

"Oh my god, you guys were so cute!" Bella exclaims and then bumps her shoulder on Jay playfully, he stumbles aside and blushes at the remark.

"Tell me about you, how did you become friends?" Jay asks Bella, and she bits her lip to think about it.

"We came closer because of the languages..." Bella recalls about an incident.

Flashback

A 12-year-old Bella went to Jake's house, since the trio had planned to watch their favourite movies and dramas.

At first because of Bella and Sunghoon's language barrier they used to watch English Movies with Korean Subtitles and Korean Dramas with English subtitles.

Even though both of them understood the languages without the subtitles.

And to bring it into action; those two made a pact, Bella would always speak to Sunghoon in Korean whereas Sunghoon would have to talk to her in English, no matter how much broken it would sound.

Jake on the other hand, understood and spoke both the languages perfectly, he would often laugh and make fun of both of them for saying silly things.

"What did you say?" Jake creased up, trying to hold back his laughter.

"No one wants you to listen to it!" Bella yelled and Sunghoon dragged Jake in to his room.

When Sunghoon came out of the room, Bella locked the door from outside, giving a high five to Sunghoon.

"Guys this is my house, how can you do this to me?" Jake yelled from inside.

"Sorry Jake, but you are disturbing us..." Sunghoon alleged from outside and giggled along with Bella when he heard Jake's pleads.

"And we shove disturbances away." Bella finished Sunghoon's sentence and heard a loud whine behind the door.

They enjoyed their remaining discussion of the day and opened the door for Jake only after 10 minutes. And Jake was waiting in order to strangle them, but instead gave them a bear hug, all three packed in an embrace.

Laughing. Fighting.

Eventually after trying for many months, they both spoke the languages fluently and would often flex it on Jake, that he wasn't the only bilingual person in the trio.

Jay was amused by how Bella's face lit up every time she talks about Sunghoon or Jake. How deep their friendship was.

It made him think, what if I had known Bella before? Would she talk about me like that? Would I share some of her childhood memories?

"I miss him," Bella sighs and glances up at the sky. Jay followed her gaze and says in a low voice, "I wish he was here."

Bella diverts her gaze from the sky and towards Jay, "Weren't you going to tell me about something I didn't know?"

Jay couldn't speak he just stared at the dark blue sky. Subsequently he utters, "I think we should leave that for tomorrow, it's getting dark."

Bella nods her head in agreement and then her gaze softens looking at him, "Thank you Jay! Thank you for everything."

That took Jay by surprise and he straightway asks, "Why would you thank me?"

Bella gently shakes her head and voices, "I just had a nice time talking to you, seemed like our accidental meet was for a reason."

Jay gulps at the word, 'accidental' how was he going to explain her that it was anything but accidental and indeed had a reason.

If he would have known back then that she would mean so much to him at this point, would he still choose that way to get to her?

"Let's go!" Bella exclaims and waits for Jay to catch up to her. Jay takes big steps to reach her.

"Should I drop you?" Jay offers her, since she was already late. Bella straightaway declines, "No, I can go by myself, you'd get late because of me. Your house in the opposite side. Plus, I don't want Jake to misunderstand things again."

She gives him an apologetic smile; Jay lowers his head and nods. She waves him and turns her back around; Jay couldn't understand why he didn't want to let her go so fast.

He again catches up to her an blurts out, "Will you be my pretend girlfriend?"
