Chapter 44

Josh's P.O.V

I drive my car with her next to me and it's almost eleven now. Her being next to me is all I'd ever need but knowing there's something that terrified her and made her call George at this time worries me but I love the fact that of all people around her she could have ran to, she chose to run to me.

But the thought of something made her shiver in the cold of fear hoping for me makes my adrenaline rush through my veins. Lots of things cross my mind but the only thing that I could focus on is that Robert guy. And the thought of her being with him again pushes me to the edge.

But I don't want to fight her or even argue with her because that only pushes her away from me. And right now seeing her so fragile and weak pushing her away from me is the last thing I want to do.

I park the car in front of her house which makes her turn to me immediately. "Josh, I don't want to go home. Please." She begs looking at me in a barely heard voice and I nod in agreement without telling her anything and start the car again.

"Thank you." She softly says and her voice is hoarse. "You shouldn't have stayed outside in the cold." I tell her holding her hand reassuring she's warm. "I'm fine." She says moving her hand away.

"Did that asshole hurt you?" I ask keeping my eyes on the road. "What?" She asks trying to raise her voice but epically fails once she starts coughing. "You're going to be ill by tomorrow." I tell her and take a turn to a close pharmacy. "Which asshole?" She frowns looking at me ignoring what I just told her. "Robert." I answer her question without looking back at her. "He helped me to reach you." She tells me still looking at me and I park the car in front of the pharmacy.

"Where are you going?" She gently asks in a low voice To get you something." I answer looking at her and leave the car once she doesn't say anything.

I get in and relief fills in once I find it open at this time. "Can I help you?" A short red headed woman ask\s me. "I need something for sore throat to help soothe the pain." I tell her and she immediately nods giving me a small smile before she enters a small door behind her.

"Here." She says once she comes back handing me a medicine and I just hope it helps her. "Thank you." I say handing her the money. "You're welcome." She says gently smiling and I leave the shop.

I get in the car to find her talking on her phone. "Yeah, okay." She says trying to sound okay. "No, I'm fine. I'm just really tired." She says and her voice cracks again. "Okay, goodnight." She softly says and hangs up.

"I called Robert and told him a friend picked me so that he'd tell my mother." She says in a barely heard voice going through her phone and ignoring any eye contact with me and I lift her chin up forcing her to look at me just to find her crying and her cheeks are red.

"Tell me." I order and she looks away from me. "Josh, I don't want you to leave me every time something happens." She says wiping her tears away from her red cheeks and my heart drops watching her trying so hard to hold on.

"I would never leave you unless it's good for you." I tell her. "You always think it's good for me." She says looking at me and she's right. "Tell me why are we talking about this?" I ask her knowing this isn't what is making her cry.

"Josh, that man who took my phone he was at the party. He threatened me to go outside with him and I wanted you to be there but you weren't. And he told me to leave you or else he is going to hurt the closest people to me. And then he threatened me with his gun so that I wouldn't say anything to you and it was so terrifying. I couldn't reach you." She says sobbing and starts coughing at the end and my heart aches to see her like this and anger fills me in knowing that they pointed a gun at her and threatened her.

"Hey, it's okay. I'm here now." I say getting closer to her and wipe her tears away from her cheeks but she doesn't stop crying.

"They can't hurt you or your family, I promise you this." I tell her knowing that her father is their boss and hurting his family is the last thing he'd do and fear fills me in realizing he's going to know she's his daughter sooner than I've expected and losing her will be the sad part of it all.

"Josh, promise me you'd never leave." She says looking at me with her innocent glowing eyes trying so hard to raise her voice but it's obvious that her sore hurts her the more she tries. "I'd never let you go." I tell her hoping nothing would stop me from keeping it.
