Chapter 6

It probably has been the longest day so far and I still have the detention. It's the last day before the weekend finally comes. I want nothing than to stay home and talk to John the entire night.

I haven't talked to him for a while, we texted now and then but I miss hearing my best friend's voice.

Right now, I'm still at the fourth period waiting for the bell to ring so that I'd look for Josh. I acknowledge that I was mean to him yesterday; therefore, I decided to talk to him today. He didn't attend any of the classes but I still hope to see him at the break

I spent last night going through a way to talk to him and what to say to him. And all I came up with was I'm sorry for being so mean yesterday.

And all that I expect him to do is to nod and walk away from me since that's who he is.

The bell rings interrupting my thoughts and I immediately carry my books and rush out of class. I was never the first to leave class but today is different.

I reach my locker and place my books in. "Hey, Are you okay?" Someone asks and I turn to find George. "Yeah." I answer him with a small smile. "Are you?" I ask him. "Yeah I am." He answers with his usual smile.

"I'm really sorry for what Sasha did at the party." He says. "Hey, it's okay." I reassure him.

"No, it's not. If Josh hadn't found you, it would have been much worse." He reminds me and I just nod.

"So um..." I say trying to break the awkward silence as people pass us by.

"He got suspended." He tells me and I immediately look at him.

"What?" I ask not knowing if it's because he knows about Josh or because he got suspended.

"Josh got suspended. He broke a school's property and got in an argument in one day." He tells me and I look down at the ground knowing it's because of me.

"When is he coming back?" I ask looking back at him.

"It's only for three days." He tells me and I nod. "There's nothing...." I start to explain. "It's okay." He says interrupting me with a smile on his face.

"No, it's not okay. Really there's nothing and I have no idea why you're telling me this. He only kissed me twice and that was it. Really he barely knows me." I say fast looking everywhere but at him and his smile goes wider.

"God it's not funny George." I say nervously laughing a bit.

"He kissed you?" He asks looking down at me since he's taller than me.

"Yeah..." I say looking down at the ground. "You don't really know him, do you?" He asks looking confused.

"I know enough." I tell him and it feels like every little thing I know about him is bad.

"Josh hasn't kissed a girl before." He informs me smiling and my eyes widen.

"What. How come? What about Sasha?" I ask him surprised.

"It's a rumor. It isn't true." He tells me. "But he told me it's true." I tell him confused.

"I have no idea why he did that. But it's just a rumor started by Sasha." He says still looking at me as I stare at the ground trying to make sense of this.

"You thought he's a player, didn't you?" He asks once I don't say anything to him. "Well yeah, since he kissed me and barely knows me." I explain ignoring the fact that I did it first. "Well, ask him about it." He tells me and I just nod wondering if he'll ever talk to me again.

"Come on, let's have something to eat." He says interrupting my thoughts and I walk alongside him to the cafeteria after I put my books in the locker.

He walks to the same lunch table which is placed in the middle and I follow him. Relief fills in once I don't see Austin instead I find Chloe and another boy sitting around the table.

I sit next to Chloe and get to know the boy who is sitting next to her. His name is Brad. He has a dirty blonde hair and dark blue eyes. He's really simple and kind. He giggles at everything and almost as cheerful as Chloe.

He has an adorable laugh that makes me smile whenever he laughs. And I can tell he isn't very close to the group since George is barely listening to him but Chloe is.

The bell rings seconds later and I say goodbye to them and go to the next class after I bring my books.

This time I decide to sit in the front since Sasha is sitting in the back next to Chloe; hopefully, I'd pay some attention.

"Michelle Sumpter." The teacher calls as soon as she enters and I watch as she places her books on the table and reads the small note that's in her hands.

"You're needed in the principal's office." She tells me. I freeze for a few seconds before I manage to pick up the courage, gather my books and leave the class.

I knock before the door opens and this time it's the principal who opens it. "Hello Ms.Sumpter. Please, come in." He says smiling as he brushes his beard with his hand.

I enter his office and sit on one of the chairs there as he is seated behind his desk. "How is everything so far?" He asks resting his hands on his stomach.

"Good." I answer not knowing where he's going with this. "Good to hear." He says fixing the way he is seated before he continues.

"About the argument that happened yesterday between you and Ms. Collins." He starts and I nod telling him to continue.

"I'm fully aware that it's not your fault neither hers since she has never got into trouble before; neither have you." He continues and my heart drops knowing that he's going to blame Josh for this.

"But Mr. Pettyfer, it was his second warning in less than a day after he broke one of the classroom's glass." He tells me hoping this isn't the classroom that I left him in.

"It's not his fault. It's mine; he just stood there for me." I say frowning. He got through enough of trouble because of me. All of this was because of me.

"Your detention for today is canceled. But you should be aware that he gets into a lot of trouble and be careful who you choose as a friend Ms. Sumpter ." He says ignoring what I just told him.

"You are allowed to go back to class." He orders once I don't say anything and with that I leave his office and head back to class.

And even though the detention is cancelled, I don't feel any better.

Four hours later classes finally end which felt like ages. I dial my mother's number as I wait outside to tell her to pick me up now since the detention is cancelled and after the fourth ring she picks up.

"Hello?" She says through the phone. "Hey, mom. The detention is cancelled." I inform her. "Yeah, I know. I called your principal." She tells me and there's nothing new about this; I should have known.

"We will talk about it when you get home." She says knowing that he told her everything and the real reason for why I got a detention.

"Can you pick me up now?" I ask her as I watch a few girls pass by giggling. "I'm at a friend's house which is half an hour away. If you wait, I'll come to pick you up." She tells me.

"No, it's okay. I'll find a ride back home. It's not that far anyway." I tell her and with that we hang up.

I start walking to go home knowing exactly the way to it. I decided to walk instead since it's not far away from school; only a fifteen-minute walk.

And only a few minutes later of walking a car's horn interrupts my thoughts and I turn to see a black car stopping.
