Chapter 40

Michelle's P.O.V

"Thank you for the ride." I tell Robert once we reach our house. "Are you sure you are okay?" He asks me for the hundred times.

"Yes, I'm just exhausted. But thank you really we had fun tonight." I tell him smiling. "Merry Christmas." He says smiling back at me and my smile widen. "Merry Christmas." I say before leaving the car and wait for my mom to open the door after ringing the bell.

She opens the door after the second ring and waves to Robert before closing the door behind us. "So how was it?" She asks cheerfully. "It was okay. We had fun." I answer her. "I called you for more than ten times your phone was closed." She tells me and my eyes widen but I recover fast. If there is one thing I suck at is lying. "I forgot to charge it and left it and Chloe's." I lie hoping she wouldn't ask me more about it.

"Okay." She immediately buys it and I watch her go to the kitchen before I go upstairs to my room.

I take off my clothes, put on my pajama, clean my makeup and go to bed. It's only 10 pm but there is nothing to do plus it's a school night.

...

"Let me go." I beg him grinding my teeth trying to hold back the tears. "Don't run away from me." He says in his broken English and starts walking grabbing my arm so hard.

I try to scream for help but no voice comes out. He walks fast passing through the crowd and no one notices as if we are invisible.

And that's when I see him, I see him standing a few steps away from me. "Josh, please." I scream but he doesn't turn to face me. "Josh." I scream again crying and trying to let of the strong grip but hurt myself in the process.

We walk away and I watch him disappear in the crowd before we reach the parking lot and he forces me to get in a black van.

...

I open my eyes trying to catch my breath and remind myself it's only a nightmare.

He will always be there. I tell myself wiping away my tears with both of my hands but the tears won't stop streaming down.

"God." I breathe allowing myself to cry. I lay in bed staring at the ceiling and go through every possible way they would harm me and the evil things they are able to do. I know this isn't supposed to make me feel any better or to stop me from crying but it gives me some kind of relief to know that only losing him would hurt me.

That would never happen. I tell myself closing my eyes hoping I would be able to sleep without having any nightmares.

After what feels like a few minutes I hear someone moving and I open my eyes to see a shadow.

"Josh." I call his name once I realize it's him and he turns around to face me. Once I see his face comfort replaces every fear I had a few minutes ago. "Hey." He says smiling and I get out of bed hoping everything is alright. "I didn't mean to wake you, you should sleep." He says brushing my cheek with his thumb which sends shivers down my spine.

"Is everything okay?" I ask getting closer to him. "Yes, I just wanted to make sure you're okay." He gently answers.

"I'm sorry I woke you up." He tells me placing my hair behind my ear gently.

"You didn't." I tell him shaking my head remembering the nightmare I had. "Were you crying?" He gently asks but I don't answer him and just look away instead.

"Talk to me. What's wrong?" He asks with worried eyes lifting my chin up. He always does it when he wants me to look at him and it happens to be one of the things that I love only when he does it.

"I don't want to be away from you." I softly say looking at him while he's still holding my chin.

"I don't want that either." He softly whispers putting my hands in his. "Just let me be there for you, no matter what okay?" He tells me and I gently nod closing my eyes for a few seconds.

"Even when you feel like crying for no fucking reason just call me, no matter what time it is." He continues replacing every fear I had of him not being next to me.

"Josh." I call him after a few seconds of comfort. "Yes?" He answers looking down at me. "Can you stay for the night? Just lay down with me... you know just like when you came to the hospital." I ask hoping he'd agree.

"Sure." He softly says smiling. I lay in bed leaving a place for him and watch him as he lays beside me. And once he does I burry my head in his chest, close my eyes and fall asleep to his heartbeat while he gently strokes my hair.
