36. One And Only Daughter-in-law

12:30pm [You made YuXin the model for your shoot?]
12:31pm - [I didn't. Obviously. How could you tell its her?]
12:31pm [I raised her since she's a kid, obviously I know how she looks. She looks great, we can let her be our model for other shoots too.]
12:32pm - [Mom, that's not happening. This is a once off mistake.]

Kun placed his phone on the table and heaved a sigh. The advertisement with YuXin was now broadcast in public and he couldn't help but feel a streak of jealousy and possessiveness, knowing how others would be seeing her figure in plain sight.

Forget it, they could only see. I'm the one who's allowed to touch her.

He comforted himself and picked up his phone again, looking at his screensaver that's a photo of YuXin smiling innocently with her eyes curved that immediately soothed his emotions.

As Mrs Cai waltz around the ballroom in a sophisticated manner, greeting each guests attending her birthday gala, she scanned her surroundings looking for any sight of YuXin and Kun. The two of them had arrived much earlier to help with the set up and went up to the room to changed into their formal outfit for the birthday celebration. It'd been a while since they went up and they've yet to come back.

Back in the room, Kun and YuXin were having a heated discussion about YuXin's outfit.

Kun, "This is definitely on purpose. I wonder what my mom's thinking."

YuXin, "Well, since she prepared it. I should wear it.. After all, it's her birthday."

Kun picked up dress in front of him and sigh. It wasn't as revealing as the last dress she prepared but it certainly wasn't anywhere better in Kun's eyes.

As YuXin came out of the changing room in the black strapless dress, Kun creased his brows for a moment and placed his blazer over her shoulders.

"Wear this over the dress." Though the blazer covered up most of her revealing shoulder blades, he was still unhappy to see any inch of her skin showing off to others.

After YuXin adjusted the blazer over her, Kun held her hand and led her back to the ballroom.

When Mrs Cai spotted the couple, she immediately walked up towards them with a bright smile on her face with Mr Cai following suit. "YuXin, I knew this dress would suit you.. What's with the blazer? Are you feeling cold?" She asked in concern.

"No, it's just your son doesn't want his girlfriend to be in such a revealing dress." Kun replied as he wrapped his arms around YuXin's shoulder protectively.

"Since when did our son become so possessive?" Mr Cai asked with his eyebrows arched in curiosity.

Stifling a laugh, Mrs Cai replied, "Since YuXin is being featured in advertisement.. Oh no, I think since forever." She tapped on Mr Cai's arm and continued enthusiastically. "Did you remember? Kun Kun always forbade his friends from visiting our house whenever YuXin was around. I think he didn't want any guys to be near YuXin at a-"

"Mum, we're gonna get some food." Kun quickly cut her off and led YuXin off to the food area before his mother could say anything more. He didn't think his mother would remember the details from the past and rattling off to YuXin right now.

"Is it true?" YuXin asked with a curious smile.

Rubbing his nose to hide his embarrassment, Kun nodded and quickly explained. "Who knows what would happen if they met up with you." He wouldn't be able to bear with it if any of his friends starting hitting on YuXin before he could.

Hearing that, YuXin bit her lips to contain her laughter. In the past, she thought Kun was merely trying to prevent the others from meeting her because of her intrusion in his family but it's clear to her now that his discomfort of her being around his friends was because of his personal feelings.

"So you really did start liking me since a long time ago."

"That goes without saying, I told you, I love you for more than half my life." Kun picked up a plate and started piling the plate with YuXin's favourite food and handed it over to her automatically.

Mr and Mrs Cai looked at the lovebirds from afar with a warm smile and Mrs Cai said," When do you think we can drink our Daughter-in-law's tea?"

"Depending on how proactive our son is, he took a decade to confess his feeling, we probably need to wait another decade for him to propose." Mr Cai joked, earning a light slap on his arm by Mrs Cai.

While the two were busy musing over how compatible their son and YuXin were together, Mrs Wang walked up to them to strike a conversation with Mrs Cai.

Flashing a bright smile on her face, Mrs Wang raised her champagne glass to give Mrs Cai a toast and wished her happy birthday and Mrs Cai thanked her graciously. It wasn't before long that Mrs Wang opened a conversation while glancing  towards Kun and YuXin sporadically.

She cleared her throat and spoke with a hint of condescending tone. "Your son has grown to be a capable man, handling all the business relating your subsidiary company on his own. Sigh, it's a waste that he's seeing someone. Had I known he's interested in dating earlier, I would have introduce my daughter to him."

Mrs Cai could tell from her tone that she's insinuating more than her words and flashed a cordial smile to keep up a front. "Kun has his own way of thinking. All that matters is that he is happy. I'm sorry he doesn't have the luck of dating your daughter."

"Well, Kun is still young and its common to be dating at his age. Marrying though, it's important to choose a partner of equal social standing don't you think. After all, it will help with the expansion of the business. That girl.. Is just a plain Jane unfortunately." Mrs Wang replied as she narrowed her eyes at YuXin with disdain. How could a girl with no background snagged away one of the most popular bachelor from her own daughter. If she were to compare, her daughter's looks, qualification and social standing win by miles compared to the girl that's a mere executive.

Mrs Cai replied calmly with a hint of coldness in her tone. The only reason why she was keeping calm was to not make a fuss during her birthday but hearing how Mrs Wang described YuXin, she could no longer take it. "Since when the Cai conglomerate need to establish business ties through marriage?"

Sensing his wife's unhappiness, Mr Cai stepped in and added. "We believe in Kun that he's able to run the business successfully even without connection through marriage, it's not in us to control his future. Besides, we can't think of a more suitable partner for him other than YuXin. If you'll excuse us, we have to attend to other guests."

He led his wife away and she quickly made her way over to Kun and YuXin.

All those people eyeing on my son to marry their precious daughter can just give up right now.

Mrs Cai looked at Kun with a dead serious expression and said, "Kun, make sure your wedding is held at the finest and most posh hotel. I want it to be the grandest event to let everyone know YuXin is my one and only Daughter-in-law."
