Part 35

The first round had ended with Ryu winning. They took a break and waited for the 2nd round.

" Miriko-senpai, i wanted to ask this earlier but why isn't number 1,2 and 3 playing with their team? Are they injured? " Someone from Wanaka asked.

Miriko remained silent before telling her what happened, as she was telling the story the other members gathered around them as well.

" Damn it. I guess this proves that they're stronger without their prodigies anyways. "

" That doesn't matter now, all we have to do is do our best to beat their asses."

Miriko sighed, nodding. Meanwhile, Akane was hyping her up her team, telling them that they've gotten stronger as individuals and as a team. Luna and Karin nodded in unison. Everyone got back to the court, both teams had to change their rotation. The match started, this time Ryu was serving first. Akane, Karin and Luna sat and watched. They noticed that Wanaka had started to be more focused in the match, Akane smirked. Akane sunked into the bench, leaning against the wall with her legs crossed and a smile on her face. Karin looked over and gave her a little nudge.

" You are way too good at this, Akane." Karin said.

Akane scoffed. Luna looked over, confused. Karin noticed Luna's confusion on her face so she decided to explain. Last night, Miriko had said that Wanaka would have a chance to win if the 3 of them weren't playing. Akane decided to provoke Miriko when she helped Miriko pick up her contact lense case, saying that she would be at a disadvantage even if she had it and Wanaka would be at a disadvantage in the first round due to their team captain, Miriko, being unfocused.

" That's kinda mean though Akane. Didn't know you were capable of such stuff." Luna said, frowning.

" You didn't let Karin finish."Akane said.

" Exactly, Akane knew that after they lost the 1st round, they would start focusing more in the 2nd round. When Wanaka really focused, winning against them would be more of a challenge and she thought that it will be good practice for the juniors." Karin added on.

Luna's eyes lit up," Dang! That's smart! "

Karin and Akane shook their head, chuckling at Luna. So far Wanaka had 10 points and Ryu had 9. The three of them noticed that their juniors were struggling a little bit. Suddenly the sound of the whistle filled the gym, Wanaka had called for a time out. Akane found it strange because they were on a streak but she just shrugged it off. The juniors went to the bench, sighing.

" What's wrong you guys?" Luna asked.

" They got better after the first round. It's getting harder now." One of them answering.

Akane chuckled. Everyone looked at her and wondered why was she laughing for.

" You guys shouldn't underestimate your opponents after winning the first round. Save that confidence for after you win the whole match! " Akane winked at all of them.

They sighed, nodding their heads. Karin and Luna chuckled, so did their coach. Their coach suggested to change rotations. They all nodded and went back to the game. They all became much more focused. The match then continued. After a while their match finally ended, the Ryu High girls won with 36-34. They all sat down, some laid down due to how tiring the game was. The coach shook her head looking at them. The day continued on and they had plenty of practice matches that day. Everyone was tired. They all went to have dinner and freshen up before going to bed. Akane was too tired, even though she didn't play the first match, the other matches had worn her, Karin and Luna out. They passed out immediately after touching the bed. Their team members all laughed at them. The rest of the week continued on like that. Finally they were on the last day, Friday. Everyone was exhausted due to all the intense training. They were on their last practice match of the week. It soon ended with most of them doing the punishment drills.

" Yo Hayate, you girls wanna join us? We're gonna do our last punishment drills for the whole week! Ya'll barely even had to one." Someone asked.

Akane chuckled and shook her head, " Sorry, we gotta go pack our stuff now. We're leaving soon."

The Ryu team left the gym and went to pack their stuff. Luna was very excited. She was jumping around happily. Karin found it odd, normally she would be the person who complained that she was super tired but surprisingly she didnt complain. Akane looked over and laughed, she knew why Luna was so excited. Karin gave Akane a nudge.

"Hm?"

"What's up with Luna? She seems extra excited. It's not wrong or anything but you know.. "

"She's excited to see Noya, probably."

Karin's eyes widened, "Hold on? WHAT?"

Akane chuckled and walked out the room, holding her bag. Karin glared and followed her out. They thanked the other teams for the practice matches before they got in the bus, on the way back to Miyagi Perfecture.
