Luke and I arrived at Michael's house before Calum, so it's been awkward for a good hour. We're meeting Ashton today and Luke is really excited about it. I think he just wants to know my opinion about him as the other boys find him amazing.

"So um, pizza?" Michael asks, daring.

I shoot him a glare and he immediately regrets it as he looks down and plays with the bracelets arouns his wrist, something I admire about Luke.

"What time is it?" Luke asks, standing up and looking out the window.

"1pm," I reply.

"Why is Calum so late?" he groans, running a hand through his blonde hair.

Just as if he was listening, Calum loudly bangs on the front door causing Michael to get up and dash to answer it. We hear them mutter under their breathes, before they slowly walk into the living room. Calum looks from me, to Michael, to Luke and back to me again.

Luke knocks me with his shoulder and mouthes "phone". I give him a confused look before checking my phone to see he's sent me a message.

'i think he told cal'

'you think?'

After a few more minutes of Calum staring, he pipes up, "Ashton not here yet?"

"No. He's late, like you were," Luke answers.

Calum shoots his arms up in the air, defending himself.

"I think I'm gonna call him. See where he's got to," Michael suggets, leaving the room.

"Wait for me," Calum says, an excuse to leave the room.

"Well this is going to be fun," I joke.

"Can't wait," Luke replies, "We didn't have to come. You can see Ashton another time,"

"I know, I know. But maybe with Ashton being around, it won't be so awkward,"

"We can hope," he says.

One thing I really want to ask him, is why is he acting like he's bothered by all of this? When I told him, he seemed fine. Now I'm not so sure. If it didn't bother him then he'd be his usual self today. Unless he's not acting and it actually bothers him.

Another knock on the door causes Luke to jump, breaking the silence. He places his hand on my knee before realising what he's doing so he moves it. I'm about to move it back when a curly-haired boy enters the room, followed by Michael and Calum.

"Alex this is Ashton," Calum grins as Ashton sits himself down on one of the chairs.

"Hey," he giggles.

Just by one word, you notice how thick his Australian accent is. Much stronger than Luke's.

I smile, "Hey Ashton,"

Michael flops down on the couch next to Ashton, before Calum jumps on top of him.

"Oh crap," Michael mumbles from underneath his friend.

"Guys please," Luke says, embarrased.

"Nah, it's cool. I don't mind," Ashton says, giggling again.

An hour later after more of Calum and Michael messing about, giggles from Ashton and mine and Luke's silence, Michael goes out of the room and comes back with a guitar.

"Do you wanna practise?" he asks.

I instantly look at Luke who sinks deeper into the couch.

"Yeah okay," Ashton says, "Do you have a drum?"

Michael nods and all the boys except Luke follow him to the end of the room where they set up.

"Practise for what?" I ask.

"We've got a small gig at a pub next weekend. I forgot to tell you," he replies, waiting for my response.

"It's fine. You don't have to tell me everything. I'm happy for you," I lie.

It's not that I don't want his career to take off and do well, because I do. But I'm just scared he'll forget about me and everything we've been through. Even though he promised me he wouldn't.

"Luke you shit!! Are you gonna help or what?" Calum calls.

I smile at him, "Go set up, I'm gonna get a drink," I say, standing up.

He winks before smiling back and heading over to the set up where the rest of the boys are struggling.

I'm in the kitchen and I lean back against the big aisle in the middle of the floor, sighing. There's so many things going on in my head, I don't know where to start. First of all, I'm worried about how soon it will be before Luke becomes a big rockstar and leaves me behind. I want him to do well and be happy but with me. Second of all, I'm not sure how long this awkwardness between Michael and I is going to last. Hopefully not long because I really love hanging out with him and being his friend.

As I'm thinking about all of this, I don't seem to notice Ashton slip into the kitchen and lean on the opposite side of the aisle, facing my back.

He coughs, "You okay, Alex?"

I gasp at the sound of his voice and turn around, smiling, "Never better,"

"So you and Luke are pretty close, I see," he says, fiddling with the cap of a lemonade bottle.

I laugh, "I guess you could say that. He's my first proper friend,"

He stays quiet before realising that I was serious and laughs back, "Yeah, I've not had that much luck making friends either. But hopefully these guys will take me in,"

We both look through the open door at the sight of Luke, Michael and Calum chucking pillows at each othed.

Soon I realise that I like Ashton just as much as Michael and Calum. If these are the people Luke may leave me for someday then I couldn't be happier.
